Being consistent would he saying good things when he plays well and bad things when he doesn’t. Now if that lines up with the playoffs is a different story, as many leafs fans were trashing him last year too

But when a player comes out and does something that hasn’t been done in 5 years… yea he should get praised

Nice narrative you invented. It is in fact more impressive however.

Not an invented narrative, but with his start to this season, he may very well have the definitive raw total season either way. I’ve seen hot starts end abruptly in all sports, but 6 goals in just 2 games after signing his big contract is a very good sign. 70 goals may actually be possible this season. I remain firm in my belief that McDavid’s 64 while handing out 89 assists is more impressive, but I’ll gladly give the nod back to Matthews if he can pot 70.

To be fair, Matthews did light up Ottawa for 4. Unfortunately we have to wait until Ottawa is out of the playoff race until the Leafs play Ottawa.
