Auston Matthews back to back hat tricks

These type of takes are also very cringe - he's playing hockey in April the same way he does for the 82 games that precede the playoffs; he doesn't just magically forget how to play hockey. He'll have his time - I remember people saying this exact same type of nonsense about Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin and Stamkos (To name a few) not too long ago.
I agree with the general sentiment, but Crosby and Malkin aren't comparable when talking about playoff hockey and numbers early in their career.

Yeah, I’m not getting drawn into a fight while the guy is in the midst of back to back hat tricks. Will come back with my cap in my hands when he hits 70 though, which he seems off to one hell of a start for. Damn.

I suspect he will get Florida.

Give Samsonov Chicago to get it back

Then split the Florida and Tampa games
I have a feeling the game on Monday is going to be another 6 or 7 goal game from our side. Our fwds are all playing well, Chi has a poor fwd core and I have a feeling Nylander, Matthews, Knies lines are all going to have goals.

Dude put up a hat trick against Montreal, am I supposed to be impressed? Yawn, I bet if anyone tried to rough him up at all in either of these games he would've disappeared like he normally does. No heart.

Tbh seems like a let down spot against a garbage team everyone is expecting them to steam roll.

Not bad for the greatest goal scorer of this generation and second best player in the world behind McDavid.

Crazy how underrated Matthews is.

Two insane goal scoring years that would have been 60+ back to back in 82 games.

One down year last season and people were saying he wasn't close to Ovechkin lol.

LMAO @ all the Leafs fans trying to be cynical at others for criticizing Matthews when they will be the first ones to throw him under the bus this offseason yet again when he finishes with 6 points in 7 games or so.
You guys are so bipolar it's genuinely hilarious.
So what should we do?

Say nothing when he does well or say nothing when he doesn’t play well

Being consistent would he saying good things when he plays well and bad things when he doesn’t. Now if that lines up with the playoffs is a different story, as many leafs fans were trashing him last year too

But when a player comes out and does something that hasn’t been done in 5 years… yea he should get praised

Nice narrative you invented. It is in fact more impressive however.

Not an invented narrative, but with his start to this season, he may very well have the definitive raw total season either way. I’ve seen hot starts end abruptly in all sports, but 6 goals in just 2 games after signing his big contract is a very good sign. 70 goals may actually be possible this season. I remain firm in my belief that McDavid’s 64 while handing out 89 assists is more impressive, but I’ll gladly give the nod back to Matthews if he can pot 70.
