Jonas and Mirtle are becoming Dreger level really quickly.
I don't think you know what "fact" meansFACT. Matthews says he wants to be a Maple Leaf.
FACT. Matthews said he wants to be a Maple without knowing Dubas was going to resign and no Shane Doan in Toronto.
FACT. Matthews has been a model citizen in Toronto.
Maybe get your FACTS straightcheck the quotes. Tavares never said what Matthews said. stop making things up.

If Matthews is hell bent on getting the maximum percentage of the cap allowable under the CBA, I would honestly look at moving him for the maximum return. He is not worth anywhere close to that, and it would influence the Nylander and Marner contract negotiations in a very negative way.
If he wants to be the highest paid player in the NHL (even though it is not deserved), offer him 12.8 million on a short-medium term contract and hold firm.
Enough of this BS of our home grown players trying to rape the organization in contract negotiations.

I want to stay on Long Island is not the same as I want to be an Islander. You can be a Canuck and still be on Long Island in the off-season. Matthews says I want to be "Maple Leaf".Article from January 2018, quote:
Maybe re-readI want to
I want to be on Long Island is not the same as I want to be a Maple Leaf. You can be a Canuck and still live in Long Island.

Language is important.
Or...if he gets the max amount of money you can pretty much guarantee one of if not both marner and nylander are gone.If he wants max money, the other two amigos will follow suit. It'll be a ripple effect. If that's the case, I'm fine with trading him for the best package available. Let some other team pay out the ass for regular season performance.
doooood......I want to

Who cares ?Matthews said it was important for him to get a deal done this summer before the start of the season.
Did Tavares say that?
Who cares ?
Not really. .. slight perhaps but not massive. The people who are comparing what they said?
That’s a massive difference

Saying it’s important to get something done early in a negotiation is a massive difference in starment
Of course. It can all mean nothjng. But there is a major difference in the statement
Do you have a link for that statement? I remember him saying it was his intention to stay with the leafs but I dont remember him saying he wanted the deal done before the start of the season.Matthews said it was important for him to get a deal done this summer before the start of the season.

It does seem as though this trend might be shifting no? Players getting full control earlier in their careers and being stinking rich already. If I could choose where ever I wanted to go, I would. None of us knows what Matthews really wants. He grew up in the desert and his super close with his family so I could easily see him want to be closer to them. Vegas will probably find a way to get him......at 10 mill.I’m not concerned about language of or what Matthews has said re: staying. He may leave, he may not. Only time will truly tell. That said, history is overwhelming on our side that they usually stay.
Isles fans likely felt similar, but reality is most of the time you’re safe to feel it. It’s also worth note we have far less issues than the Isles we’re facing at the time.

I remember him saying it can get done in due time but that doesnt mean anything. Where does he say specifically that he wants it done before the season? You said it yourself that the language is important....not what you think he meant by it.It was in the exit interview. If you watch it. He says about his intention to sign. The honour etc. then he was asked about timelines and he said it’s important to him to get it done before the season starts. He’s not worried it will get done in due time
I’m sure it’s on YouTube
I would agree generally if Tavares made no similar comments that it’s noteworthy.
That said, we’d have to understand the context of the question he was asked and if it was leading.
Such as “how important is it to get a deal done early this summer” or the like

It is a fact that Matthews said those things, but that doesn't mean he'll follow through. You just don't think he's guaranteed to come back which is fine, but he did say those things lol.I don't think you know what "fact" means
1) Who cares what he's said ? JT said he wanted to be an Islander
2) Google pulling pants down and Matthews - oh are we just including toronto as FACT
Or he might realize a change of scenery could work for him as well.I hope though, that seeing Eichel winning the Stanley Cup will influence Matthews' desire to be paid less than premium (i.e., aligning with the other superstars of the league).
