He was reasonable before, & accepted a little less so that the Leafs could use money elsewhere. No reason to think he wouldn't do the same again.
I wonder how Caps fans felt when they had all those years where their team played great in the regular season and failed to go far in the playoffs? Having potentially the greatest goal scorer in NHL history surrounded by other great players and they could never get past the 2nd round in all those years until their Stanley Cup winning year.As I feared six years ago, this team is the perennial SJ Sharks or Oilers of the early 2000s. Playoffs end in misery. I was hoping I wouod be wrong, never thought I would be this right.
And they also had to fire George McPhee and go through a couple coaches to achieve what they did.I wonder how Caps fans felt when they had all those years where their team played great in the regular season and failed to go far in the playoffs? It took Ovi and the Caps 13 seasons to move past the 2nd round and win the cup and they haven't been past the 2nd round since. If Leafs fans are complaining about lack of success after 7 seasons, how do Caps fans feel watching nearly double the time in fertility before their team finally won the cup? What if the Caps decided to blow things up after 7 seasons would they still have won the cup? Who knows. But they kept at it and eventually won.
Not saying the Leafs don't need changes, but not every team has success at the same rates. The Leafs just happen to be a team that's taken longer than expected, but that doesn't mean they can't eventually get there like the Caps did.
Well, Caps did moved out a lot of their old core through the years.I wonder how Caps fans felt when they had all those years where their team played great in the regular season and failed to go far in the playoffs? Dude my thoughts exactly. All of a sudden his contract makes sense. Getting the best contract in the league with basically no negotation needed - and all during the middle of the season.Thats why AM could get whatever he wanted, lol
Most people in sports and entertainment making good money have an agent.I'm still kinda blown away that GMs have agents. I mean I guess I should have figured that some do, but I cant possibly imagine someone like Lou having an agent.
I think part of it is like lawyers hiring lawyers to represent them, but yeah somebody as experienced as Lou I'd think they do their own. Also depending on their personality I can see them wanting somebody else to help with it so they aren't so involved.I'm still kinda blown away that GMs have agents. If you don't have an agent, it means you are not good enough. Thats why I have an agent too, just in case some Sports team ask me to coach or be their GM or President. Most people in sports and entertainment making good money have an agent.
Power, a 1st and more better be coming back. Doubt they want Matty in Buffalo though.the trade can come with a contract extension.
maybe buffalo will take him...the yanks can have a yankfest.
13mx5Who here wants to have a gentlemen's agreement with Mathews agent and the Leafs prior to July 1 which he can sign on July 1?
If he refuses to negotiate are you okay with that?
What figure would be the absolute killing point for you to seriously consider trading him?
He's gonna ask for 14 mil times 5 imhoWho here wants to have a gentlemen's agreement with Mathews agent and the Leafs prior to July 1 which he can sign on July 1?

Yup. Matthews lost money today with his homie getting the boot. Here at least. This is gonna get ugly. IMHO he wants out.The rumors of Matthews at 5 years being the highest paid player in the league can officially take a hike now.
It was a media narrative btw, if you didn't notice. Matthews ridiculous demands on a 5 year contracts was a simple part of the little hegelian dialectic that our media played the last time we did negotiations. When Matthews' inevitable 8-year contract gets signed with him being the highest paid player in the league by an insane margin the media completes the circle of the problem, reaction, solution by pointing to Matthews' previous and more insane looking demands and goes "but look at what they negotiated him down from, it's a win guys!"
Same game with Marner. They were throwing out offer sheet BS left right and center and saying that Mitch is demanding 13x5 except his contract turned out so bad that not a lot of people (even the Dubas fans) agreed with it.
But with Dubas gone now - who the f*** knows what's happening with this negotiation.
Exactly. There's tons to the stories this week if you read between the lines. He's gonna ask for 14 mil times 5 imho
Bye

He'll easily get more than MacKinnon IMO. Leafs will still bend over.Exactly. There's tons to the stories this week if you read between the lines.
The core's main motivation for staying with the team was money. Nothing more, nothing less. Dubas is the best GM in the league to get you paid. If despite all this - Matthews wants to stay, then I honestly think he truly does want to win. But I'm leaning towards him wanting out now because him becoming the highest paid player in the league is not looking so good anymore.
People are going to say if we had Dubas we would have got a better deal. All sorts of things like that are coming. Brace yourselves for the if we still had Dubas'He'll easily get more than MacKinnon IMO. Leafs will still bend over.
Dubas is the reason we are here. Wonder if the dubasites that thought 5 years was a good idea still think so.People are going to say if we had Dubas we would have got a better deal. All sorts of things like that are coming. Brace yourselves for the if we still had Dubas'
