Can you imagine what he would do if he gave cared all the time.
This what frustrates me about mathews

He immulates our team when thy want to play they are unbeatable when they don't we suck.

If Hedman was healthy and Cermak was available we wouldn't have won.

Florida physically beat us up they mew that was the way to beat us.
They new our three stars would stay out of the tough areas to score.
Morgan was the only one going to the net with the puck.

I want to think that AM was playing hurt, he absolutely sucked in Game 5, it looked like he was trying to lose, he was noticeably bad, he was not the Matty we know.

in that vein 14 points in 11 games is quite good too and we know how we all feel about Marner? outside of Game 1 tkachuk was invisible which makes losing that series even more infuriating.

From a points perspective yeah but he was still a menace, hitting, getting in passing lanes, driving play. He was noticeable in the sense that he was engaged vs the No Go - No Show Club.

He had 2 points in the last 4 games of the series, hence the last bit of the post.

You can contribute to your team winning and not score points.

NJ has a very smart gm
Hughes 8 × 8yrs
Hischer 7.25 × 7 yrs
Hamilton 9 mil
Bratt will probably sign 7.5 * 8 yrs
Total = 31.75

Mathews will want 14 mil " 4 yrs 26 - 30
16 mil + 8 yrs 30 - 38

Yeah hes not missing many games overall but it seems like every year hes been "battling something" all year long almost.

If they decide to extend him (personally I keep Matthews over Marner, even though they've been equally disappointing) they should just shut him down next year and tell him to get surgery.

Extend Matthews, trade Marner, sit Matthews for the year and use it as a development year for some of the young guys + whoever they get for Marner. Give Woll a chance to be the #1G or split time with Samsonov.

If they miss the playoffs they get a nice draft pick. If they exceed (meet?) expectations and make the playoffs they can do what Tampa and Vegas did and have Matthews return for the playoffs.

Fun fact about Matthews;

In the season he scores at a clip of .62gpg
In the playoffs he scores at a clip of .44gpg

In what world can you win with leaders like JT, Mitch and Auston who's play goes DOWN in the playoffs?

The excuses made are awful too, all great players have bad series sure, but they also have GREAT ones, Auston does not. 0/8 in terms of having a great series, we just have to pat him on the back when he gets even close to replicating his season play.

His series against Tampa was not great? 5 goals and 9 points in 6 games with very good defense?

If you can’t get Matthews locked in before July 1 don’t mess around and trade him. This will come full circle. Tavares saying he would never leave islanders than comes to Toronto. Cycle ends with Matthews leaving.

If Mathews wants more than 12 mil. He should be traded. Cannot Ice a legitimate contender with this salary structure. If he really wants to win here, 12 mil is tops. Then sign Nylander for 8 to 9 mil. Trade Marner.

So if he wants $12.7m Leafs should walk away?

The Leafs can't sign him officially before July 1st anyway. But yeah... definitely get a verbal agreement.

Why are there people so worried if we trade mathews.
He has never reached 100 points
Yes he is a big Center that leaves us wanting more.
Stamkos rage dolled him
This yr 40 goals
For 13 or 14 mil we can get 2 or 3 players that combined will score 75 goals
Example of recent contracts
Verhaeghe 4.125 mil 42 goals
McCann 5 mil
Nick Paul 3.15 mil

The sky won't be falling if we trade him
This, yes definitely this

If he was hurt and its what effects his shooting, than it's likely that its the same injury that has effected him off and on for the last 4 seasons, which for me says and quite loudly that this injury has become chronic.

Chronic injuries can be treated but never cured, as somebody with chronic back problems and 3 surgeries over 38 years each one more extensive then the last, I'm speaking with some authority.

It would be crazy to lay it all down on him, he may reach peaks but he also may further degrade which means his production will also.

He seems like a good guy, his shot is what sets him apart, but without that shot he's not a superstar. What he becomes is game 5 vs the Panthers Auston Matthews. And that Auston Matthews isn't worth 13 - 16m per season.

1OA presently doesn't mean anything, it's not worth anything. Sometimes as the song goes seeing as we're a gambling league these days "you got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em" and just maybe the time has come to cash the chips.

Good for him, he's paid 11 million dollars to do that. Did he single handedly win us that series? No.
Has he ever done that? No.
What did he do vs Florida? Nothing

Is he going to want a raise after 7 years of failure? Ofc!

Drai has 4 in a game.
McDavid and Drai go 2ppg.

Meanwhile our 11 million dollar players need the biggest pats on the back for every little thing.

Sorry lifetime he is .44, if you think that +6 first round losses is going to be worth 13+ million, then enjoy the product that paying someone that in the playoffs plays like a 6-8 million dollar player.

Marner and Matthews are amazing 2-way forwards (especially Matthews). I think Nylander and or Tavares are the odd men out here.

McDavid and Drai were outscored on the ice at 5vs5. They were also put out in the second round.

If players could single handedly win playoff series why didn't Lemieux make the playoffs until his 5th season in a 21 team league and only won the Cup twice once his team became stacked and Gretzky never won a Cup after leaving Edmonton while they won just 2 seasons after?

The Dubas situation changes everything. I'm at 50/50 he's gone by the draft, same with Marner.

While they may have had a relationship, not sure Matthews was making it seem like he cared about whoever is in charge when looking at his contract demands from insiders.

Maybe the new guy will make it more likely for him to sign 8 years. Maybe not.

That's what MLSE risked by playing chicken with Dubas.
