For a guy who says he "doesn't plan on leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs", it is taking a long time to sign. I get that they may have a deal in place and they may not want to announce it until after Nylander signs but Matty signing sooner than later would show the fans just how much he wants to stay and it would buy him some goodwill from Leafs nation IMO. I mean they guy is coming off one of his poorest playoff performances to date. After seeing him score in game #6 against Washington, I thought the sky is the limit. Hard to believe he has not been able to get us over the hump 6 years later.

middle of the summer and still no contract. just imagine Treliving letting both 34 and 88 walk for nothing.
Deja vu all over again for Trev....he must be having cold sweats....meanwhile in NYC Shanny is just wsking up fgom a ling night at the theatre....his true passion

ToneDog I have repeatly stated that imho he's not signing here....he'll say all the right things a la JT on the Island and come crunch time he'll sail off. Nylander same thing....if we dont trade him first. Trev is between a rock and a hard place...I blame Shanny for all of this...

Gaudreau is American, so wanting to play in your own county seems logical. Only commitment he had to Calgary was being drafted by them.
Being American dosent matter. He could have been honest with mgmt & stated he wasnt resigning Just like JT with the Islanders....

I think he is resigning. I think money matters and no other team can or will pay him close to what he wants and get from the TML.

I feel like neither will sign until their contracts expire next year. We'll know for sure what the cap is at that point and can negotiate properly, rather than guessing like Dubas did.

I'm hoping we can get a deal done before, the anxiety of him potentially walking is gonna haunt me. But the longer it drags on, the less optimistic I am we'll get a deal done this year.

Not looking good. Where there is smoke there is fire. Did ROR expose what is happening in the Leafs dressing room? If both 34 and 88 are lost, Treliving should be banned from the city of Toronto.

Very much agree. Silence speaks volumes....

This isn't basketball.

One single player does not have anywhere near the impact in this sport that they do in basketball. Basketball also does not have a hard cap. Hockey is a team sport with a hard cap and must be budgeted that way or a team will never succeed.

Our organization and core players have decided money, fame and marketability are all more important to them than team success...and it's the fans that receive the consequences of those decisions.

All the hope we had in 2016 and it was all for nothing.
You know what bugs me the most? The fact that Shanny and Dubas both figured it was an inevitability that we would win. Just be patient they said... They didn't really augment things or change things up when it was obvious that none of them are big game hunters when the lights are the brightest. They just figured Chicago won in 3yrs and they had 2 superstars...so will we. The hubris that those pricks had is what did us in. Not evolving with the covid cap...not seeing what literally everyone else saw in the stars...those things bug me to my core. And whats worse...they look like they might double down again and bet on these muppets.

What did Marner say last week about Tree? He said he stepped in and "protected us" right away...this is our core...they need protection....FML.

Not surprised. they continue to be the most unlikable group we have had in years.
im almost to point that they can all take a hike. If we have to rebuild again so be it, at least it won’t be with that total failure Dubas at the helm
At least during the rebuild I had hope and looked forward to every game. I even enjoyed cheering for them to bottom out and still had a better time than wishing a miracle of conscience would hit our so called superstars and have them just be f$44ing reasonable.

Agree 100%

Where is the contract?
Not only where is the contract, where is he? All these great sports reporters(?) and not one if them can travel to see if he us working out, had wrist surgery, knee procedure, tummy tuck or whatever. They all just talk and make phone calls to each other. There will be pictures of Mitchy and his wedding.
Lazy reporting.
AM has not given 1 ounce of info that he wants to stay directly. Not 1 reporter has talked to him.
There is an unspoken secret about AM, I have no knowledge about what it may be, only guesses, but one of these talking heads needs to do their jobs.

The jobs of these reporters is not to travel around and harass the players during the offseason. That's a great way to get blacklisted.
Matthews has said he wants to stay every time it's brought up, so if people haven't accepted it yet, saying it again isn't going to change anything.
His contract will be signed when they're ready.

Dubas really was the hero we didn't want but the hero we needed
Interesting take but my opinion is that he was the arrogant GM that thought he could reinvent how a team is structured in a hard cap world and has severely injured what could have been an awesome opportunity and rebuild.
we are faced with paying these already overpaid under achieving player that have accomplished nothing as far as moving the team forward in the playoffs even more money. No matter how much the cap goes up each one of them is going to demand a disproportionate % of said cap.
We will never get out from under them until someone has the stones to make serious personal changes to the core 4

Hey man I actually agree with most of this as far as the reporters go.
However is still think that if he is going to sign what is the point of waiting, unless there are important details they have not agreed on yet and if that is the case then nothing is guaranteed until they both sign the document
