The Nylander trade will take a few more days, maybe weeks.I’m guessing they already have a deal but want to get Nylander done first.

Lol, no, we're not going back to 1998. That's all in the cap era. It hasn't been super common lately, but an impending skyrocketing cap also hasn't been super common lately. I'd rather have 8 years too, but if he's willing to give us an 8 year cap hit percentage on a 5 year term, you can't complain too much. You're still getting him through all of his prime years. I find it funny how everybody was up in arms for not getting him for 8 post-ELC, and now the idea of having him for 10 is unacceptable. You're going back 15-25 years to find comparables; guess you got me? Point is there are no equivalents in recent NHL history, especially among teams that went on to win.
Until McDavid signs his UFA contract - when he will make more than Matthews, Matthews is the most valuable UFA in cap era history to sign a currently legal contract.McDavid is the only player in the NHL worth 20% of the cap, but he won't take that much on his next contract because he's interested in winning.
I'm not talking about the NBA. Stars in the NHL earn less than the middle tier of the NHL relative to impact.Stars in the NHL earn relatively less compared to their NBA counterparts because they have a much smaller impact on the result.

5 goals and 9 points in 6 games. Man, those Lightning dominated him.Dominated by a rotation of Lightning

I mean yeah, the Panthers series was terribad but seriously if you're gonna rip on the guy at least be somewhat accurate.Especially the game where the Lightning didn't register a shot against Matthews when he was on the ice for 24 minutes
He isn’t the best, that’s McDavid. And none of his peers are doing the same, they are all going 8 years at reasonable AAVs
Matthews is on his own level here. And I don’t want to hear about the cap rising, I’m sure everyone else’s agent knew the cap is rising during their contract but still did 8 years at a reasonable AAV. It’s not like if AM34 was signing last summer he’d suddenly command a reasonable 12.8 x 8
One rumor had Matthews agreement in place, but waiting on Nylander to sign first so he can't use it as leverage.I think we'll see a Matthews signing any day.
Unless it's not going great between the Leafs and Matthews.

Yeah. I'm kind of over this core, specifically Tavares and somewhat Nylander. They are all soft and proven they couldn't get it done. They really don't want to treat everyone equally do they.
Those 1 year deals might be a blessing in disguise for the newbies.
Tavares is immovable, just going to have to put up with his salary for 2 more yearsYeah. I'm kind of over this core, specifically Tavares and somewhat Nylander. They are all soft and proven they couldn't get it done.
Surround Matthews and Marner with Knies and Bertuzzi type players and give them the cap space taken by Tavares and Nylander.
Only nerds have time for being accurate. We’re out here making franchise altering decisions purely based on feelings and vibes. It’s called “being a hockey guy” not a stats guyI mean yeah, the Panthers series was terribad but seriously if you're gonna rip on the guy at least be somewhat accurate.

It seems like you're the one who doesn't remember a thing or two. Oh and BTW, the agents for Kane and Toews say hi.I know that most Leaf fans are too young to remember the Sundin to Matthews drought years, but do they remember what happened to key pieces of Chicago and LA after they traded cup wins?
They weren't rewarded for winning, they were sent packing to shed contracts against the cap.
He's waiting to see if they trade Nylander so he knows how much money is left over for him to hog all to himself.I think we'll see a Matthews signing any day.
