The Matthews leaving scenarios seem so weird in the sense that he's going to lock out the Leafs, mislead them so he can purposefully damage them after his lame duck UFA season. It's like a bad mix of the Kawhi to Los Angeles, with a bit of the residual guilt from what the Leafs and Tavares did to the Islanders.

I think all parties know it's not a good look any which way you slice it. He is going to re-sign here for 4 extra years with a raise and that will be it. That's what I think.

Imagine a team with mediocre players playing with their hearts played like a good team vs us who were trailing the whole playoffs with 3 super stars.

I mean, neither gets us closer to our championship goals, but yeah, I could see an argument to be made for how a scrappy overachieving team with no name players would be a fresh experience as a fan.

Looks like the AZ arena vote went against them, and too bad too, I wanted to see AZ sort it out. Can probably scratch that leaving scenario off the list.

According to Dredger's podcast, Matthews representation does not want any negotiation and their expectation is they will present one offer to MLSE as take it or leave it.

Start @ 19:34

Then trade him
Alot of people In the know are saying he will sign a 3 or 5 yr contract and wait for the cap to go up .
This guy is all about money .
Leave big guy

Would we be ok with the same deal as MacKinnon? Basically takes him through his whole prime. Maybe Matthews doesn't go for that and wants another 5 year deal to cash in again at the end.

Interesting offseason ahead.
I’d prefer 5 over 8 this time. His deal at age 32 would be quite a bit less.

JT said the same thing before he left the Islanders. Who cares what the players say? He may very well want to stay, but until there is pen to paper, his words mean nothing.
So you’d be more comfortable with him Saying, “I don’t know maybe things aren’t right here for me.”

I would trade him ,.money is his goal
He is not about building a team .
ORielly would love to know what you noticed while play with Marner, Matthew's and Nylander.

That was one game more than AM and JT. I'd challenge your statement, he was a factor in Game 1 , 2 and 5.

Not all zero goals are alike. 16 points in 12 games is kinda good, no?
Can you imagine what he would do if he gave cared all the time.
This what frustrates me about mathews

He immulates our team when thy want to play they are unbeatable when they don't we suck.

If Hedman was healthy and Cermak was available we wouldn't have won.

Florida physically beat us up they mew that was the way to beat us.
They new our three stars would stay out of the tough areas to score.
Morgan was the only one going to the net with the puck.

It seems money is the goal. The overall attitude can change with age but again, the return for an unsigned moving into an NMC player? We'd probably be sick to our stomachs at the return. If you give him a little extra he may even take a limited no trade.

We won't with this trade but I think this is the best thing for this organization .
If our goal is to build a team .

LA needs a center when Kopitar retires
Vilardi + Byfield + 2024 1st rd pk

Cal Peterson 6 mil cap is the stumbling block

This trade would actually give
2 players in the trade
+
2 players we could sign with mathews cap hot gone
Example
Bertuzzi 5 mil
Orlov 6 mil

I've seen enough warning signs with this guy.

If what Dreger says is true (big if) I'm ready to move on. Given his injury concerns, inconsistent playoff performances and allegedly obscene contract demands, I see absolutely no reason to retain him.

You have to draw the line somewhere. Get what you can for him and retool the best you can.

I don't know what we can get. A sign and trade would net a lot more though. Really have no clue what we could get.

What did Dregs say he wanted? I see it. Take it or leave it, well better put it forward now and see what the damage is. That's not a very good start to this though.

The Stakeholders would not wait until July 1 for the number and term as Dreger is saying.

That makes no sense. The date of July 1 is merely a signing date.

All Stakeholders can discuss this well ahead of time and know what is needed to get this done.

If by Draft day there is zero agreement whatsoever , he will be traded.

Espn reporter Emily Kaplan was on tsn , very interesting what she had to say about Matthew's.
She did an interview with Mathews years ago .
She thinks that he want to be a trend setter money wise .
She never mentioned that a Stanley Cup being his main goal.
He adbviously want a cup but I think money is his true goal

To be clear….. are you suggesting that Matthews is more money hungry than……..

Ryan o rielly?

Considering the circumstances with a July 1 kick in of the No trade for Auston, if his management has agreed to table an offer, even one not subject to negotiation, this is not a bad scenario for the Leafs. Mathews’ team could just sit and do nothing which would really force the Leafs’ hand.

I’m good if it’s a 5 instead of 8 yer deal. Hopefully his wrist gets fixed but a 5 year commitment today is really a 6 year deal which at the number it will be at requires a prime player.

Yeah if matthews has the audacity to just throw down a number and term and say take it or leave it, I'm putting his ass on the block immediately. Youre never going to win with that type of attitude. But its Dreger, and this guy is just a shill for Leaf players agents and will say anything you tell him to say.

Yeah I wouldn't be thrilled to be given an ultimatum like that if I were the Leafs. It's more than fine to pick your number and term up but there needs to be a conversation and negotiation. If there is no conversation, it's clear to me the player would rather move on. Not sure if the information is accurate because there were insider rumours that the Leafs and Matthews had a deal in principle for an extension last year... but who knows.

Like or hate Dreger, he reports this stuff with some form of insider information.

Take it or leave doesn't sound like a guy that really wants to be here. And make sure there is enough money to put a winning team around you. Did they just not see this problem the last 5 years?
Yes I want to be here at maximum dollars.

Ryan has already won a cup.

Morgan gave everything he had and more..

That was not the same with marner and mathews.
