I don't think it's a single stat. I hope that helps, but know you well enough to predict you coming back with an obtuse gotcha.

Glad you aren't voting for Bonino for Selke, for what that's worth.

If we look at Selke voting - last year McDavid was not on the list, Matthews is.

Last year, Matthews was 14th in Selke voting. McDavid did not crack the top 30. Since obviously you bring up the importance of Selke voting we can use that to compare.

No, you missed the point. What I'm saying is that's a bad stat to judge forwards worth defensively. Look at the company and get back to me.
Take whatever defensive stat or analytics you want and then take a look at the top 5-6 guys in the running for the Hart and tell me where Matthews is on that list ;)

McDavid is better and even if you disagree it is insane to say Matthews is “by far” the best

It’s fun that we’ve again reached the point where Matthews being the best goal scorer in the league isn’t enough for Leafs fans

There's literally 2 trolls in this whole thread, the guy with the name 34 and this divine dude - don't group us all together

If we look at Selke voting - McDavid is never on the list, Matthews is.
Because of blocked shots? You're just retreating here. But, like I said, it's expected. Some might say, "it wouldn't surprise me."

Back on track, where do you stand on Bonino?

I'm asking you what defensive metric you have McDavid close to Matthews. You have named none.

You're arguing with a phantom. I never said anything about the Hart.

You told me blocked shots. I never argued McDavid was a great or even good defensive player. I said most teams don't worry about either as defensive players.

Back to Bonino, your thoughts?

Blocked shots is one metric, not the only one.

Yes, both Matthews and Bonino block more shots than McDavid. What's the controversy?

Six hat trick opponents:

Montreal
Minnesota
Buffalo
Calgary
Philadelphia
Anaheim

Impressive nonetheless. Not many hat tricks across the league let alone multiple in one season.
Gretzky was scoring against midgets who let in clappers from the point

Bonino leads the league. No longer plays in it. Says something about your metric. Not a controversy, just a simple point.

No. I said he’s not the best defensive forward in the league but also said he’s by far the best amongst the best players in the league. That’s more than enough for me to say he’s great defensively. But whatever works for you.

So…simple question. Is Matthews a good defensive player?

It's a stat.

Matthews lead the league last year. He did not win the Selke. You're the one who created the strawmen of blocked shots does not equal Selke therefore it's irrelevant.

To hit 70 he has 29 games left to score 22.
At his current pace for the season he's on target for 74, if you round down.
