McDavid was amazing in the playoffs, what are you talking about?

Also 70 goals is worth talking about regardless of what happens in the playoffs, the regular season does matter.

I find it crazy that Ovechkin never had more than one 60 goal season.
and to think Matthews already has 2 and maybe a 70 goal season under his belt before hes even 27 years old.

may not need so many 50 goal seasons as he ages to out score him.

long way to go but off to a great start

Ovi would have multiple 60 goal seasons if his prime was in today’s NHL.

I'd love to see the Wings make it somehow.

How awesome would a Wings Leafs playoff battle be? Incredibly unlikely but if memory serves correct, they both used to be in the Western Conference...............

That would be something not seen in a long time.

But we both gotta go through some really tough matches and ones that are getting kind of annoying. f*** Boston and Florida right now. Just GO AWAY! Stop being good!

We'll never know because life goes on and people get old.

I'm turning 46 in a minute and the "kids" I work with probably think I'm the biggest f***ing loser on the planet. Old man shit.

It's gonna happen to all of us.

Doesn't mean younger people can't do great things.

I think Matthews getting close to 70 goals is awesome, but that doesn’t take away from OV. Gotta remember, he was getting that 65 goal season in an era where the next two leading scorers got 52 and 50 goals that year.

I feel like when all is said and done, we will look back at these guys and think Matthews has the higher goalscoring peak, but Ovechkin will have the longevity. He as been pretty healthy despite playing physically and has a goal scoring game that has aged wonderfully; lots of it is off teeing off with a one-timer from the hashmarks, not having to rely on speed or agility, which declines with age.

With Matthews it makes me sad how many games he has missed due to injury and Covid shutdown. He has had multiple seasons where he has been on pace for 60+ goals, just hasn’t had the raw numbers of games to get there, but this season we are finally seeing him fully healthy and with a full season to play, so we should enjoy it.

Boston and Tampa have had a stranglehold on the Atlantic for a decade and a half. There is a reason why all those talented Toronto teams got knocked out in the first round year after year.

08: 73 in 82
09: 59 in 79 (61 in 82 pace)
10: 55 in 72 (63 in 82 pace)
13: 36 in 48 (62 in 82 pace)
14: 58 in 78 (61 in 82 pace)
15: 61 in 81 (62 in 82 pace)
16: 57 in 79 (59 in 82 pace)
20: 50 in 68 (60 in 82 pace)

Years that 60 is hit or on pace for in this years league.

Matthews goals in 23-24 levels:
21: 44 in 52 (69 in 82 pace)
22: 60 in 73 (67 in 82 pace)
24: 69 in 79 (72 in 82 pace)

Matthews is not as durable as Ovechkin, on a season by season basis. He almost got 70 now, but most likely won't get that same amount next season. Look at his track record season by season...
