just saying, just because a guy is playing 1c doesnt mean they are a real 1c ya know. Stephenson is a great player but having a tougher season. according to capfriendly depth charts hes right now a healthy scratch too.
most teams he's likely a 2C/3C
I don’t disagree. But at that point, he was their best centre available and was their 1c.

yeah but that doesnt mean hes a true 1c. just like Bozak wasn't but was for us for a very long time. but truth was. Bozak was a 1C is teams with shit C depth
2C on teams with okay Cdepth and 3C on most good teams/contending teams

Lol. What a pedantic argument.

I literally don’t care where you think he is on the scale of a 1c to 16c in the echl. He at the time, was their best centre available. Which is exactly what I said. He was playing as their 1c. Just as bozak did for the leafs when he wasn’t a top line player. Not sure how that’s an argument

Matthews is pretty good at hockey, wonder if he'll get called up to the big leagues next year.

Yes, I know that Leaf fans believe that Auston Matthews and Mario Lemieux are comparable players.

So you set the record straight on the Reinhart comparisons only to immediately turn around push the lie that "Leafs fans" think Matthews is comparable to Mario.

No, they don't.

One poster was referring to what would happen if Mario was playing today and believed their goal scoring would be similar. All the other posts - like how Mario's greatest goal-scoring season is one ahead of Matthews' current season - are all related to, you guessed it, goal scoring.

Today's nhl has never been easier to score goals league has never been softer no clutch and grab no holding up at the blue line way more 5-3 PP and of course 3-3 OT.
Exactly how many 5 on 3 pps have the Leafs received this year? How many 5 on 3 goals does Matthews have?

The man has 50 even strength goals for chirst sake. Cope more.

I never thought 70 would be attainable ever again. Not with the way goalies have improved, the speed of the game, and the way defenders are more mobile than ever.

This is absolutely insane. I hope he does it.

side note: habs fans will disagree with me, but I always found Matthews great in the playoffs. He played tough, was focused on a two-way game. Such a fantastic hockey player. Wish he was on the habs.

Might as well go for 70 hard now before the Leafs go on holiday!

Remember when the kids were saying the league was too competitive, defensive systems were too tight and goalies were too good for anyone to score more than 65g or 130pts ever again? lol

Incredible player that has a real chance to become the greatest goal scorer in NHL history. Makes people overlook that he's also a complete defensively solid hockey player. So many haters will miss witnessing and enjoying one of the greatest hockey players of our time because their immature leafs hatred.

It's all about longevity and durability at this point. I doubt anyone can match Ovechkin's beast mode in this area though. And I bet Ovi plays a few more years than he planned after he gets the record just to tie a bow on it forever.

pretty sure u said he was a 1c which he really wasnt is what im saying and bozak was never a real 1c which is why i used him as an example.
it shouldnt be an argument anyways. just because someone is the best a team has doesnt mean hes a true 1c

Matthews greatest skill appears to be turning posters' brains into tapioca. Some of the takes in this thread should result in bans they are so bad.
It's the froth some get from anything Leaf related.
