My random thought of the day was that drive-thrus with two lanes that merge into one need to have some sort of control for the merge to prevent idiots from jumping in front of you when they ordered after you. I can't imagine the two lane system is really any more efficient, other than maybe kind of shortening the total length of the line around the building.

I'm no fast food magnate...I just hate the merge lol

We have a two lane drive-thrus here too. They are quicker, provided there are two staff taking orders. Two orders taken at once means both can be commenced at the same time, which means they are made sooner, which results in less time each vehicle is waiting at the collection window. I don't know the math on how much more efficient it is than a single lane, but enough to make it worth while. Also, big queues dissuade some potential customers, resulting in lost sales, which of course you want to avoid. More cars attending your drive-thru in less time equals more money.

As for the merge issue, well some people are just jerks. Could have some sort of gate or light system I suppose, but the businesses would probably see it as not worth the cost.

One thing I learned about merging anywhere is, if you have a Bruins flag on your vehicle and live in Leafs territory, you will never be allowed to merge quickly.....it would take me forever for someone to let me in. The only time I used to put the flag on was during playoffs, so you can imagine.....

I loved going to Market Basket on random weekday mornings right when they opened at 7am back in New Hampshire. Quick and easy and a lot cheaper than other places in the area.
I have actually never shopped there; there's never been one to which I have practical access.

Even so, as someone who has worked many retail jobs, and works one presently at the TD Garden Pro Shop, I appreciate the conduct of Arthur T. Demoulas toward his employees.

He talks the talk, and he walks the walk.

FYI,

It won’t last because everybody will cry about it. I used to watch them give the BC High kids literal free rides. Every day. Both ways. For years. The conductors shuffled them all into the same car, to the best of their ability, and just breezed on through when it came time for tickets and passes. Occasionally they would charge them all 1 dollar in the morning. Just the morning. ONE DOLLAR. On a fare that ranged from 3-6 at the time.

Then people complained about it. When i say people, i mean the parents of the BC High kids! “Hey why does the kid from Kingston get the same break as my kid who’s only coming one stop from Braintree?!” Type stuff

After hearing the complaints so long, the commuter rail top dogs said “ok, we will make it fair…everyone pays the normal price”

You gotta inquire about getting into the concession game.

Well, it may not last.

As everyone knows, especially those who ride the T regularly and have investigated its dysfunctional history, the MBTA has been a mess for at least 40 years.

Chronically underfunded, overstretched and comically inept in its administration, it is amazing there has not been a major tragedy, or series of them, associated with its operation.

There are, of course, many reasons for this.

Chief among them has been the willful neglect and indifference of those nominally responsible for overseeing the agency and it's effectiveness. Namely, the indra's of Beacon Hill.

They do not use our public transportation system. They do not depend upon it for making a living. They have chauffeurs or privileged passage to and fro.

Yet, I believe in new MBTA general manager Phil Eng.

Unlike his predecessors, Eng is a civil engineer with a record of proven success,

He understands the depth and breadth of the many problems that continue to plague the T.
Neither crony nor hack, he is in it for the long haul. He gets it, and early results are encouraging.

So, like a few long suffering riders, I am cautiously optimistic.

We shall see.

Display the B's flag in October. Leafs fans will be so incredibly confident that they will beat the Bruins in the playoffs, they'll be sure to let you merge out of sympathy. I hear that's been working since the fall of 1968.

Why, my fine fellow?

I don't have much of a head for business and my last name is not Jacobs. I'm very happy with my present position, engaging customers and coworkers. The managers from top to bottom are very laid back, nice people.

It ain't CVS on Newbury Street working the register, I can tell you that.

Parenthetically, I graduated to front door greeter and jack of trades in that job. Yet IMHO, it was garbage and I grew to hate it.

The Big Boss was a turnaround specialist (sic) and a good guy, but his entire life was wrapped up in the position. Which is to say, he had no life. His lieutenant was an awful cow who eventually made my life miserable.

No job is worth that.

To quote top supervisor Chris Crowley at "Denver's largest spirits emporium, Argonaut Wine & Liquor,"

"It's just a liquor store on Colfax Avenue."

The social aspect of concessions is massive. If you’re a fast talker or have any shred of charisma, this job brings it out of you and then amplifies it x100.

The money is…really freaking good too lol. Starting out it was about a hundred bucks a night, but within a year it was 2-300 for most events. Very frequently it would be double that. My best take was over 800.

That's great 😃 👍. Sincerely.

Selling's really not my thing. The dollar signs look pretty good though.

Admittedly it may all be different now. I haven’t done it in a couple years and even when I stopped they were transitioning to a new system that seemed like it could heavily impact the cash flow.

I can see where the pro shop would be a fun and probably a much healthier and chill atmosphere. I always found it to be really cool just being in the building. It’s got a certain aura to it especially on game nights
