Thank you everyone for the kind words. I'm going to take it easy the next few days and try to be nice to myself. Hug my dog (she's 14) and try not to be traumatized by the whole situation.

Just sucks. I hate it.
So sorry for your loss. Losing a beloved pet sucks…..hard. But I can tell you first hand that things DO get better and you’re tough enough to get through this.

Please take care of yourself. You have my deepest sympathies.

Some Friday questions:

1) Name something you remember that your parents told you that ended up being total nonsense? Things like you not swallowing watermelon seeds or one would grow inside you, etc.

2) How old was/is the longest living relative in your family?

3) If you could take a month long vacation, all expenses paid, where would you go or what would you do? Magically, all your work would be done when you got back, so no worries at all.

4) What is your favourite comic strip, comic book, etc?

5) Today is "find your inner nerd" day, what nerdy things do you enjoy?

I too am so sorry for your loss. I read your original post shortly after you posted. I was lost for words to respond. I did shed some tears and said a prayer for you and your family. I have always had cats in my life since infancy and still do to this day. 22 years ago I moved to Florida and brought 4 cats with me. Since then I've buried those four and over the years have adopted 6 others ... found homes for two, buried 1, and still have 3 to this day.

I'm in my 60's and the one thing I have found to be true when you've lost you last cat. When you and you family are ready get yourself another kitten. It will never replace the love for the one you lost, but it will remind you of why you loved to being with; and with time you will realize that you are loving all over again and the ache you are feeling now in your heart will be healing. Blessings and prayers your way.
So nicely said.

Some Friday questions:

1) Name something you remember that your parents told you that ended up being total nonsense? Things like you not swallowing watermelon seeds or one would grow inside you, etc.

Don't swim after you eat or you'll get a cramp and drown. I used to swim after breakfast every morning, I'm pretty sure I never drowned.
2) How old was/is the longest living relative in your family?

Grandmother lived until 92. My mother was 86 when she passed.

3) If you could take a month long vacation, all expenses paid, where would you go or what would you do? Magically, all your work would be done when you got back, so no worries at all.

All my work being done when I get home would be Fantasyland, so I guess I'd go to Disney.
4) What is your favourite comic strip, comic book, etc?

Comic strip? Bloom County by a landslide. Comic book - Fantastic Four.
5) Today is "find your inner nerd" day, what nerdy things do you enjoy?

I just told you my favorite comic book, isn't that enough? I'm also a science nerd, a Star Wars fan, and a Marvel geek. But I draw the line at dressing up and going to things like Comic Con or LARP. I once had a girlfriend who asked me what I was dressing up as for our visit to King Richard's Faire. I told her "I'll be dressed as the guy who actually has a girlfriend."

I don't know what to say or why I'm posting it here. But I feel like I need to.

My cat had a heart attack and died at my feet almost 2 hours ago.

He came upstairs. Greeted me. I patted him. I turned around. The next thing I hear is him drop. I turn back around, I thought he was having a seizure. Within seconds he's dead.

I am numb. My entire family is. I've cried so hard I dont know if I have tear ducts anymore. My cat was not sick. He was not overweight. He was not old. He just turned 8 in July. My world won't be the same anymore.

Hug your pets for me.

This is the last photo I took of him.

1) Making your bed is how you start the day. F that game, maybe only when guests show up. Also to not quit things. Quitting things has brought me much happiness and success.

2) My grandfather and his brothers have some serious longevity. He is 93, another is 102, another died at 97, a few other half brothers lived close to or over 100. But my dad died at 54 so who knows.

3) New Zeland and Australia or somewhere else in the South Pacific.

4) Never been into comics but my daughter did a cartooning camp at the Center for Cartoon Studies in VT.

5) I like data science and maps. I could spend hours scrolling through reddit/r/mappporn

1) Our parents told us when we were young that coffee was an adult drink and that it would stunt our growth if we drank it. I’m 6’6 so maybe they were right.

2) My great grandmother on my mother’s side was 99 when she passed.

3) I have a dream of taking a road trip across the US: I-90 West from Boston to Seattle, drive down the West Coast to I-80 and drive east through the Heartland. It’s my goal to visit all 50 states and this would check off a lot of them.

4) Favorite comic strip: Pearl Before Swine
Favorite comic book: Spider-Man

5) I’m a huge video game nerd, we got an Atari 2600 for Christmas in 1981 and I’ve been a fan ever since.

Wow that's terrible. Wishing you a complete recovery!

I don't know if you've had a concussion before but don't be surprised if it takes awhile before you feel like yourself again even once the obvious symptoms are gone. I had a "mild" concussion and for a good six months after the headaches & sensitivity to noise and light went away I just felt "off". That's the only way I can describe it, I was just "off".

1. It’s illegal to turn on the dome light when driving, lol

2. Not a lot of longevity in my family, so get your neelydan love in while you can - then again, human beings are immortal - energy cannot die, only transform

3. Japan, if I wasn’t afraid of flying (sup Rocco)

4. I used to enjoy The Far Side - is that still a thing?

5. I am a huge dungeons and dragons and EverQuest/World of Warcraft fan

When my sister and I were quite little, my dad used to tell us that McDonald's hamburgers were made with worms, so that we would never want to go there. As warped as it was, it worked. lol

2) How old was/is the longest living relative in your family?
Both my grandmas lived to 90.

3) If you could take a month long vacation, all expenses paid, where would you go or what would you do? Magically, all your work would be done when you got back, so no worries at all.
I would follow the Bruins from city to city on a West Coast road trip of course!

4) What is your favourite comic strip, comic book, etc?
I loved Calvin and Hobbes when I was younger

I am a complete music nerd. I know more useless facts about all bands than any one human really needs to. I really should start attending Music Trivia nights. My partner makes fun of me and calls me Wikipedia.

1. Vegetables would make me grow big and strong. I'm 5'9 and 180 pounds. That and the classic dome light in the vehicle being illegal.

2. I think around 89-90

3. Get the liver primed up in Vegas, then off to Ireland and pub crawl for a week, then like Switzerland or something. I don't even know.

4. I used to collect the Archie comics.

5. I've documented a bunch of my most insanely hilarious bowel movements and I'm turning it into a bathroom reader. I've got 2-3 4 page long stories so far.

2) My grandmother lived to 101.

3) I would travel around the entire coasts of Ireland and Britain by road and ferry when needed.

4) It is hard to say because I always loved both comic strips and comic books, but I will go with The Far Side and Tales From the Crypt. The 70s horror comic books were so great, I wish I still had mine!

5) I love following the weather patterns and could talk forever about other dimensions & time. I also love doing crossword puzzles, etc.

Wait 30 minutes after you eat before swimming or you'll get a cramp and drowned. Total f***ing bullshit man.

2) How old was/is the longest living relative in your family?
Grandmother lived to 99 on my dad's side. Grandfather to 97, and grandmother lived to 93 on my mom's side. My dad's father kicked it at 36, so that f***ed up the curve. My mom is 85 and still going strong too.

Australia. Never been always wanted to go, but it's so far and such a long plane ride. Still on my bucket list along with Ireland though.

4) What is your favourite comic strip, comic book, etc?
Tie between Bloom County and Calvin and Hobbes.

5) Today is "find your inner nerd" day, what nerdy things do you enjoy?
Star Wars, sci fi in general, comic books, comic book movies, LOTR and A Song of Ice and Fire for books, and video games.

1. Santa/Easter Bunny? I don't really know. My mom is a worry-wart and exaggerates things that turn out fine but I don't have specific examples.

2. My grandfather was 91. Everyone in my family on both sides seem to average out in the mid to late 80s.

3. Tour of the big cities of Europe. A couple days in each country.

4. I never go out of my way to read any. When I was a kid I had all the Calvin and Hobbes books and a bunch of Garfield ones.

5. I hate nerd culture, it's so forced. Classifying hobbies as nerdy is a little weird too. But I like video games and old wrestling if that counts.
