No I'm talking non Canada games...of course people are going to flock for Canada games...ohh wait no they didn't.. Montreal will shell out for the Habs but won't for this tournament. Yeah prices for the Canada games are expensive but the non Canada games are going for cheap! We're talking attendance here. Attendance overall has been disappointing not all of this has to do with ticket prices that people seem to be making it all about. I just think there is a lack of interest and people just won't admit it.

It is ticket prices. People don't know who the kids that are playing in this tournament are. You can't expect them to pay the same price to see kids plays as they do to watch the Habs, who they follow year round and know who all the players on the team are. Would I rather be at a junior game or a habs game is not a hard question to answer.

I was expecting to pay a low price and go watch a couple of games, instead it was a $900 package and I wouldn't even be able to attend all those games. They didn't even announce that single game tickets are on sale now.

Put a junior tournament in two cities that couldn't give a rat's behind about junior hockey, then charge out the wazoo for tickets. Not shocking that attendance is pathetic.

There are two things Toronto fans are interested in: Nylander and Domi. That's it.

Enjoy that egg on your face, Hockey Canada.

Here in Toronto, most people who follow hockey generally know:

- McDavid
- Eichel
- Domi
- Nylander
- Reinhart

Other guys well known include the two NHLers Duclair and Lazar, Darnell Nurse, Fucale.

I will definitely say this years world junior is definitely lacking in DRAFTED talent, relative to other years, but common, its a pretty BS excuse to say "you dont know anyone".

There are 2 NHLers on team Canada, a Montreal drafted goalie who is a returnee, perhaps the best prospect since Crosby, a former 2nd overall draft pick who has a well known family name, and another prospect with an NHL name

Hopefully we won't ever hear from Habs fans about other teams not filling the building LOL. What a disgrace.

Do you have the ticket prices for the non-Canada games for those cities? I'd be curious to see the difference and if/how much they've gone up over the years.

Just discussing what the thread is titled.

The Calgary event package is 21 games and includes the gold medal game, bronze medal game, semifinals, quarter-finals and 10 preliminary round games, beginning at $399. The Edmonton event package is 10 games and includes four guaranteed preliminary round games featuring Canada’s National Junior Team, beginning at $320.

Interesting. My 13 game package was $431 (also in the cheap seats, so pretty comparable to these "beginning at..." prices, I assume) so not even close to the value of the Calgary package but more or less on par with the Edmonton package ($100 more expensive but with 3 more games, probably the exhibition and the 2 QF games).

However it shouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to figure out that, at similar prices, tickets for junior hockey games in Edmonton would easily outsell tickets for junior hockey games in Montreal. I'm not surprised at all by that.

I got free tickets for Canada vs Usa game this wednesday, Desjardins section, the price on the ticket is 160$ , the food is not even included, which normally it is when you attend a habs game in this section.

Could explain why those sections are the most empty, even more than the lower bowl. If food isn't included you might as well spend a few more bucks to be in the reds, or save a few bucks and sit in the whites.

I don't think it's a pricing issue. Montreal is not a hockey city. Montreal is a Canadiens de Montréal city. They will sold out for a Habs practice but you'll never see a full house for a non-habs related hockey event.

I don't know why it has to be one or the other - it's both. Montreal is not a hockey city to begin with, and high prices only made attendance worse.

The Swedish fans were very very loud the whole game, stood during powerplays, had organized songs and chants. It was fabulous and not something I've seen at any tournament hosted in Canada. We Canadians tend to be hand sitters even for hockey.

I was in Malmo. I found that it was the Canadian fans that were the loudest/more aggressive in cheering then the Swedish fans at the games (not including the medal or vs Russia) although admittedly we weren't organized in any way. During the Canada vs Russia for Bronze, I thought one guy was going to have a heart attack he was freaking out so bad- he eventually jumped up from his seat, ran down the aisle and was smacking the glass so hard that it came loose from the corner where it met the penalty box.

I guarantee that for the non Canada games in Montreal/Toronto that the majority of the seats that are filled are with people who got a good deal off of stub hub. In order to sell my tickets, I had to go well below face value for most and with the Canada games sold either at face or slightly above it to get a buyer.

example- Canada vs Finland I got $225 for a pair in the lower bowl section 123 which is just a shade less than face value. Most of my non Canada games went well below face for a SINGLE ticket sold as a pair in both cities (ie $32 for Finland vs Germany)

Don't get me wrong, I was expecting this when trying to resell when I ended up not being able to go so I'm not complaining but I still think what Hockey Canada should be pricing is nothing over $50 a seat in any section for non Canada and $100 for Canada in the prelims in order to guarantee a sell out.

While I am bias in favour of Toronto, having spent 4 years in Montreal, I think I have a fairly solid view of Montreal vs Toronto when it comes to sports.

I have been to Leaf games at the ACC, a Habs game at Centre Bell + 1 split squad game + one playoff away game shown on big screen. I have also been to watch the Missisauga Majors (then called), the Toronto Marlies and the Montreal Juniors (then called).

My findings:
1. In general the Bell Centre for Habs games is louder than the ACC for Leaf games. The one regular season Habs game I saw was against the Panthers, Louis Leblanc scored the winner and when he did, the arena got louder than any Leaf game I had ever been to up to that point. The only time since when I saw the ACC louder for a Leafs game was during the playoffs the next year. I think most people agree with this.

2. Toronto Teams are too "corporate focused". Pro teams know that firms and businesses will buy large amount of tickets so naturally the atmosphere can sometimes suffer. That being said, it also means people SHOW UP

3. Toronto is truly a hockey town. We get called "leafs town" but when you look at the fact the Marlies have gotten strong showings the past few years. While the number of teams in the GTA has shrunk, there are still the Majors (Steelheads) and the Generals. There is also an ECHL team in Brampton. Of course the GTHL is the largest hockey league in the world. THe OHL Cup for 15-16 year old minor midgets still gets way more attention than any league with 15 year old kids.

4. I dont like to crap on Montreal, but it seems to me to be more of a Habs town. The Juniors are obviously gone and as people have stated, if the team goes on a slide, there will be a noticeable shrinking in the attendence. A lot of people dont even know hockey, but because Price and Subban are plastered on bus stops and walls all over the city, they are still heroes in the way Phaneuf, Reimer and Kessel never will be

I really don't think this is true. The Bell Center has been selling out for the last decades and Habs haven't been the most successful team

2004 Playoffs: team finished 7th and won 1 round
2006 playoffs: team finished 7th lost in 1st round
2007 playoffs: missed
2008 playoffs: team finished 1st won 1 round
2009 playoffs: team finished 8th lost in 1st round
2010 playoffs: team finished 8th and won 2 rounds
2011 playoffs: team finished 6th and lost in 1st round
2012 playoffs: missed
2013 playoffs: team finished 2nd and lost in 1st round ( shortened season)
2014 playoffs: team finished 3rd and won 2 rounds

Prices go up and bell center is still selling out year in and year out, so I don't think attendance will shrink by any means
