When the Mon-Wsh game swapped to Sportsnet coverage, the difference was astounding. I hate how TNT and ESPN mix their audio.
Yeah you cant really know how good the sound in the arena is only from television. Its easy for broadcasters to decide how much fan sound they want and some prefer that there in ant to much stadium noice so we can hear the commentators. If you're watching on TNT it kills the vibe. The arena and crowd sounds are distant.
When I watch the SN feed it's totally different. The in-arena atmosphere sounds as good as ever.
Small arenas help with noise.I legit think Winnipeg would be even louder than Montréal if they had a few thousand more seats. Their arena only seats 15,000 and change lol.
I thought the atmosphere tonight in Scotiabank arena was pretty good late in the 3rd.
Small arenas help with noise.
Rexall Place in Edmonton had a pretty small area over the ice and the sound bounced off the walls and was absolutely deafening.
Rogers Place is probably 3 times the volume, and it can still be loud but peak noise is noticeably lower than the old rink. It's also harder to get chants going as the distance causes the fan started chants to end up a little out of sync.
Remember the Covid sound effects? There were definitely a few teams still doing that even when the fans came backplease don't encourage TV production teams to play fake crowd noise
Way to corporate. Toronto is a joke these daystoronto has been f***ing pathetic for sure
I was listening on radio and you could not hear the play-by-play on Friday. On Sunday it was a bit clearer. When the Mon-Wsh game swapped to Sportsnet coverage, the difference was astounding. I hate how TNT and ESPN mix their audio.
I miss it. It will always be Skyreach Centre to me. It’s sad it’s just collecting dust awaiting demolition. Come playoff time that barn was obnoxiously loud lol.
As you mentioned it was very close quarters, with a low metal roof that made sound bounce around everywhere. Apparently it was bad for concerts, but it was amazing for playoff crowd ambiance.
Skip to 24:25 for Laraque’s scrum.
It was so LOUD.
25:00 Ducks coach has the Thousand-Yard Stare over how loud the crowd is
I’m pissed they didn’t build the new arena with crowd ambiance in mind.
The 2004 and 2006 Flames and Oilers runs (I will give props to both cities) was *bonkers*. Don't think you'll ever see that again, especially not stuff like women flashing crowds admist a sea of people outside post game, lol.
Also it's crazy to see Corey Perry playing in that Oilers-Ducks series, haha. Almost 20 years later he's in the playoffs still with the Oilers.
