I feel like this division has been at its absolute worst in ages. Even Florida, with there 7-7-7 record under Rowe have a chance at the playoffs. Holy ****.

Yep, this is one weird division this year.

I noticed that Tampa is getting healthier& heard they have played the most amount of games against Metro teams. So they could start to put up points soon.

Tampa just got a lot healthier. I'd be afraid. Cally is back soon, they just got Bishop back. Only Stamkos missing at that point and they can overcome that. I see them going on a big run soon.

You have to look at it like 2 playoff spots with 5-6 teams competing. This division will be lucky to have a wildcard team. Bruins need to pick up as many loser points as they can because the regulation loses are what kills you.

Bruins need 97 points

No team ever missed with that

They missed with 96 two years ago

37 games left they need 48 points

24-13

Screw who's behind they need to hit 97 and should be in

Bizarre Bruins stats

2014 first and only team to get 96 points and miss playoffs

2015 at 70 games were first in Division with 12 games left and at 86 point points

2016- weirdness again playing out

One of top 3 teams in road record, shots, possession

One of worst three teams in home record, shooting %, backup goalie record

more games in hand on opponents, more points slipping away, not a great formula for a playoff appearance or hopes of one...yikes

Either make a run or take a nose dive, don't play in this middle ground crap. We take a nose dive, we can bring up some of the prospects and see how they will look. And maybe get some real moves done to take this team out of purgatory.

Seems a little wonky that we can have upwards of 6 more games played then others.

with how many games go down to OT late in the season it's realistically 22-11-4, so most likely 11 regulation loses max, but maybe as many as 13 as you say.

All these home games they can easily flat out lose:

PHI twice, CHI, PIT, SJ, TOR, MON, NYR, NYI, TB, OTT, WAS

All these road games they basically have to win:

@DET, @LA @DAL, @OTT, @VAN, @TOR,

And these road games I wish them all the best of luck, but they can always surprise on the road:

@CHI, @PIT, @WAS, @TB, @EDM, @ANA, @SJ

They lose those 7 I just listed and they can only lose another 4-6 games total. With how they play at home and the teams I listed in the first section, I got us comfortably missing the playoffs. Be quite happy to be wrong. Schedule is not kind. Ultimately you just can't be this bad in your own building and make the NHL playoffs. And with how many years it's happened now, you really need to wonder...

One of the great problems for us in this division for years to come is going to be Toronto. Really powerful young core. They build that blueline out and it's going to be a real problem. Ottawa could be a similar issue with some of the prospects they are due to add to a pretty strong core. As weak as the division is now it's not a lot of potential for growth.

Not going to be easy.

Out of 45 games, Bruins have won 22 of them, or 48%.

Just applying basic math, maintaining that would net them 18 more wins. Toss in an extra point game and your looking at 18-18-1 as a realistic record to finish the season, which nets the Bruins 87 points. That's not going to cut it.

Now let's be even more realistic and of those 19 predicted losses, the Bruins maintain their current pace of gaining loser points, they will actually go more like 18-15-4 (loser points obtained in 22.72% of their losses, works out to 4.31 games) so for arguments sake I'll bump them up to 18-14-5 as a realistic finish based on their season results thus far.

That's 41 points for a total of 90. A far cry from the 97 predicted to be required to get in.

There aren't out of it by no means, but they'll need by my guess at least one decent 8-2 or 7-3 run here somewhere, followed by about .500 hockey in between that run, and a bit of luck, to get in.

Not trying to sound negative but right here today it doesn't look good.

They have had only two 3 game win streaks so far. Hard to see an 8-2 or 7-3 run in this team.

Other than obviously needing Rask to stay healthy it simply boils down to the Bs raising their shooting pct. If that goes up a reasonable amount they are in without any problem. If it hovers around what it is then they are on the outside looking in. The team is solid to very good in every area except putting the puck in the net.

6 points behind of NYR and 7 points behind MTL and one of those teams is going to lose points tonight. One good winning streak would really solidify their position.

I look at it a tad different but you are right Just win home games at decent rate .

It's not weird DKH, it's choking out down the stretch and key players completely out of steam. On pace for a similar finish with the current regime.

5 day break will be big for endurance this year...will just have to see if we are still in the playoffs after that break.

I know some teams have had their bye week already but it still doesn't explain how the Bruins have played more games than anyone else at this point.

Ottawa and Toronto having SIX games in hand is ludicrous.

Refresh your browser in about 7 hours. :) I guarantee you they won't have 6 games in hand.

And, actually, having 5 games in hand is easily explainable with a bye week. The bye week is 5 days, or about 2.5/3 games. The other 3/2.5 games are just the natural ebb/flow of the NHL even without the bye week.

But what's nuts is people thinking we're in a playoff position, second in the Atlantic. We're not. I don't know OTT's schedule in terms of B2B/difficulty, but I'd trade their record for our record any day of the week.

It is also important to remember that so far we have played Ottawa once and Toronto twice and have banked zero points. That has to change or we will have to start focusing on the wild card. We play Philly one more time at home on a Saturday afternoon in March. We are done with Carolina is is also in the mix. We also have one more with Florida and three with Tampa ( 2 at home )

Every game counts.

If you have to keep pointing to anomalies to defend this team not making the playoffs, maybe you should realize that they simply haven't done enough to make it in those years instead? It doesn't matter what has happened before or not, the years you're talking about, they just didn't do enough. And this year looks eerily similar to the last three, no?
