LEAFS GDT Atlantic Division - Race to the 1st

I'm guessing the Leafs end up winning the division with 106 points. Tampa and Florida probably end up around 102/103, depending on the outcome of the remaining game between them. Ottawa looks like it is locked into the first wild card spot.

Yo settle down there champ. I remember that freakin thread about "no way Leafs miss the playoffs" and as soon as that thread was made the 18 wheeler fell off the cliff

But I gotta say this team has made me a lot more cynical

I think the silence on Tkachuk is deafening. Not skating, and not a single word on when he might start skating. I wouldn't be surprised if he had surgery and Florida simply didn't disclose it.

He did screw Team USA in the 4 nations cup final by skating em up and play like 5 mins the entire game not that am complaining just observation ;)

You're the one using selective reporting.

If the playoffs start on Saturday (as they're anticipated to) which teams have the most days off from the prior Saturday? Florida has 3 full days off before the playoffs. Tampa has an extra day off more than us.
You made vague misleading statements while I provided exact information, and you think I am using selective reporting?

Too funny.

Teams (Toronto, Tampa, Ottawa, Carolina, Washington, NJ, NYR?) playing their last game of the season on the Thursday April 17th start their playoffs on Sunday. So it looks like Florida will get 4 days rest before they start while their opponent will get 2. Playoffs will start in the West on Saturday.

Luckily it will be Tampa Bay that meets the rested Florida team with Tkachuk on one leg and Seth Jones playing the role of drill pylon.

And no Ekblad for the first 2 games. Beware though, Tampa has been the 2nd hottest team in the league over the past 2+ months. If Vasi is good, they will be a tough out. Their 3rd line might have ours for lunch. Both will be tough outs for the Leafs. Pick your poison.

I kind of think Tampa wins a Florida matchup. Of the two I would prefer to meet the champs but better yet is to get 1st place and let them slug it out. Not that a wildcard team couldn't take the Leafs out but the odds are still better than against another 100pt club.

What is funny or ironic is that we have owed Tampa and have not beaten Florida or Ottawa. The Sens are young and inexperienced playoff warriors but they won't let the Leafs freewheel. Lose to them and it will be the ultimate embarrassment for this core and the Leafs senior management team. I'd hate to be the jersey salesman and have to answer to the media at the season ending presser.

When Tampa wins they must win big, they are just head and shoulders above Everybody they may meet in the 1st round when it comes to goal diffrential
Tampa +69
Panthers +35
Leafs +23
Sens +2

That's exactly what Tampa does. When they win, it's often by scoring a ton of goals against bad teams. They they lose against decent or good teams, or sometimes even bad teams on the road.

I think it's a very smart move for Florida to coast for the rest of the season. They won the Stanley Cup last year and should feel confident that they can beat anybody, whether they start on the road or not. Not to mention they've played a lot of hockey in the last 3 years, going to The Cup finals 2 years in a row. So it might be beneficial for them to conserve some energy this season before the playoffs start.

I tend to feel the same way. I'm not sure they should care which team they play in the first round.

Tampa has a very easy schedule - they're either finishing 1st or second. Florida likely finishes 3rd. Tampa is the real threat. Vasi has a .922 save percentage on the year, his best since he won the Cup so that's likely the team you want to avoid in the first round if you can.

Tampa plays 3 playoff teams the rest of their schedule and no back to backs, just every other day. Toronto, Ottawa, and Florida are the only games Tampa has left against playoff teams. Their remaining 5 are against non-playoff teams.

They might take their win streak all the way to the playoffs unless we beat them.

Buffalo actually playing great hockey and just beat a lot of pretty good team last 3 week...they beat ottawa twice, Washington, Winnipeg, Vegas last 3 week and last meeting vs tampa like a month ago, it was not an easy one for tampa in a 6-5 win...

NYR doesn't play good hoxkey but still fighting for last spot and they will play a team in playoff mode playing to survive...Will not be easy game

Although nothing is guaranteed tonight's game at home vs Cats will set da direction down da stretch .. cats played on road against a fast Habs team last night which makes them a tired team .. Leafs had some rest and a good practice in yesterday so we should be in da drivers seat to start da stretch drive .. it will come down to who wants it more .. as usual .. let hope we don't disappoint tonight .. this is a TONE setting game .. we need to show Cats who their daddy is .. GLG

Only way Cats win this game is if Bob shuts them down or Stollie does not play well. With a Panthers team missing Tkachuk and Ekblad, playing b2b, coming off home and home losses to WC2 Montreal, with a chance to make a statement and put a huge dent in the Panthers chances to win the Atlantic, there are no excuses for losing to them tonight. Lose and you also fail to keep pace with hot Tampa (7-2-1 in their last 10 and 4 wins in a row).

Someone else finally sees the actual threat. Avoidng Florida in the first round is critical.
