LEAFS GDT Atlantic Division - Race to the 1st

Ignore the fact that you were deliberately cherry picking teams to make it look worse than it is,, and when I provide accurate data, you move the posts.

Florida plays Thursday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.
Toronto plays Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Tampa plays Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Again, selective reporting to make things look worse that they are. Each team plays four games in the last week, with two of the three having back-to-backs.

You're the one using selective reporting.

If the playoffs start on Saturday (as they're anticipated to) which teams have the most days off from the prior Saturday? Florida has 3 full days off before the playoffs. Tampa has an extra day off more than us.

Leafs can concentrate on one huge game this week against Florida who will play a potentially energy filled fight fest the night before. Thats nice, then Saturday against the Blue Jackets before playing the Panthers again next Tuesday. so good rest between games. Crucial to win those Florida games. (Florida plays 5 games in this stretch to Leafs’ 3)

Tampa has the easiest finish to their season if only because of no B2Bs. And they get to play us the day after we play Florida making it a 4 point game where they're fresh and we're tired. NHL really screwed this team over with the scheduling.

We get Florida Wednesday, a day after the Panthers play in Montreal. Panthers could fall out of the race for first if they lose both games.

Yes, Florida's in the same boat as us. I'm saying Tampa has no hurtles at all (beyond having to play some teams in the race to make the playoffs) and are the biggest threat to overtake us, especially with the 4 point game when we're on the 2nd game of a B2B. Gonna be an interesting next few games.

Florida has already checked out. Like I said a couple of days ago, the Panthers will tread water around .500 the rest of the regular season. They will end up 5 or 6 points behind the Leafs, and my guess is they likely finish behind Tampa as well.

Thinking you could be right about the Panthers. Missing Tkachuk and Ekblad might be catching up to them. Will be interesting to see if Tampa can keep up their level of play. Not many could have seen them finishing first going into the season. Finishing first in the Atlantic, drawing and losing to the WC1 team is the second last excuse I can think of for this core. The last would be to draw and lose to WC2.

I'm sticking with my original opinion that we won't see Tkachuk back until September, other than as a cameo in an elimination game where he plays a handful of minutes. I suspect that he ended up with a pretty significant muscle tear.

It is possible that by the end of the games Saturday, we are going to see some clarity here. As others have mentioned, Florida could drop out of the division race by the end of Saturday, depending on how this weeks games go for them.

Then it's left to a real dog fight between Tampa and Toronto, that I think Tampa has a slight advantage in. Playing Tampa, the night after Florida is going to be a tough one for sure. Toronto really needs to win the games against teams below them in the standings.. almost every game is a must win now.

I think the silence on Tkachuk is deafening. Not skating, and not a single word on when he might start skating. I wouldn't be surprised if he had surgery and Florida simply didn't disclose it.

Matthew Tkachuk has taken the next step to his return from injury.

The Florida Panthers’ star winger, who is on long-term injured reserve while sidelined with an apparent groin injury sustained during the 4 Nations Face-Off, skated prior to Florida’s practice on Monday morning at the Baptist Health IcePlex. It’s the first time he has done on-ice work since his injury.

Tampa's biggest problem is road games. I have no idea why there is such a massive discrepancy in their play at home relative to the road, but they definitely have the ability to win 6 of their remaining 9 games. Even if they do that, however, the Leafs would only need to go .500ish to stay in front of Tampa.

Next four games for Tampa are on the road, which as you say, has been their achilles heal. In their last 7 games, they've won one, won one in OT and lost FIVE games on the road..

Based upon records in their last ten games, all three teams are about equal in difficulty of teams being played. Tampa's opponents have averaged 10.6 pts over the last ten games, Toronto 10.9 and Florida 11.1.

At the end of the day, not much of this matters... show up and play your game for the full 60 minutes, and you've got a good chance of winning.... don't, and you won't.

The 3 point cushion on Tampa should be enough for the Leafs to stay ahead of them. I don't think florida will be an issue at all. I expect they will continue to struggle the rest of the season, including losing to the Leafs on Wednesday. If you watched the Montreal/Florida game yesterday, you can see that Florida has mentally checked out.

I'll certainly feel better seeing Tampa lose a few games.. Looking at their schedule I don't see any games they are losing upcoming

The one thing that may work against Tampa is that they have more road games than home games remaining. They are a very mediocre road team but elite at home.

Edit: disregard, I see you've already touched on this above

Tampa have a game in hand. Win that game and the game head to head and they make up those 3 points and more.

Everyone goes through tough schedules and back to backs, I'm sure Florida probably had multiple earlier on in the year. It is what it is, sounds like a lame excuse if we lose the division lead.

Someone posted earlier the Leafs have the most B2Bs in the league this season. Here's what Grok has to say.

"For the 2024-2025 NHL season, the teams with the most back-to-back games are the Carolina Hurricanes and the Toronto Maple Leafs, each scheduled to play 16 sets of back-to-back games."

Pretty sure we're at or near the top every season.

It's the team themselves that dictate what the schedule looks like. The Leafs always have arena availability issues, so I am sure that forces many of the back to back scenarios.
