We don't have the assets for a guy like Drai without basically giving up everything worth a damn. Which makes it a pointless move.

Drai doesn't move without Seider heading the other way.
Well AGAIN. You really don't know. It's a straw-man argument. Not like he's on the block, etc, who knows what Draisaitl(or a player like him) would bring in an open market trade. I just threw a name out. Obliviously it'll cost, and that cost idk exactly and I won't pretend to have a grip on it.

All's my very literal point was: Yeah Cossa/Kasper are up for grabs if we're talking about the right people. Neither imo, are franchise cornerstones.

I'll just leave it because you are being pretty head-strong about not trading anyone for anything which isn't too realistic if you're trying to trade for good players.

I named 3 names. One of which you seem to agree with me on, Ed. Kasper is the real deal and looking to be trending to be at least a Larkin clone. He might even be better. Kasper is also our only NHL future center. The only reason I'm firm on Cossa is because he's the only goalie we have that has any kind of NHL path in front of him. Otherwise I couldn't care less about goalies.

As a rebuilding team those are not the pieces you move. Those are the pieces you acquire in a rebuild.

As far as the playoff race... Let's wait till Christmas to get really excited imo. Things can level out really quick here.

We've got Vrana/Bertuzzi/Fabbri out for a extended time and though, maybe not feeling now, next week(few games) can be different. I know Fabbri was more expected to be out than not but still. He'd provide more scoring to the lineup if he was available.

I'm hoping they can tread-water till about the TDL. I don't want to watch anymore lottery draft games, etc. IDC what anyone says, coaching is clearly better than last year and I'll account a few more wins just because of the staff.

Fabbri - Suter - Vrana

Is the era for PIT and WSH success starting to be over ?

It's looking more and more, that it will be 5 teams at the playoffs from Atlantic, and 3 from Metro. Especially after Philadelphia will fall.

WSH and PIT will start winning again and chip away at NJD, NYI and PHL’s points percentage.

On NJD they lost Blackwood to injury and Palat is out long term. I thought it was just a matter of time before coming back to earth but I think they crash instead.

BUF seeks to always be hot the first 10 or so then is ice cold after. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen as well.

Based on their advanced stats and other season projections, I would say:

- NJD greatness is legit. They are best xGF% team in NHL and if those kind of teams can match the xG in goal scoring, they have just becomed a new contender, or lets say, pretender. They remind a lot of what Carolina has been for years. Their play seems to be sustainable. Hischier and Hughes are what young Crosby+Malkin or Bäcks-Kuznetsov axels were on the glory days for some others.

- NYI has always been a legit team. It will stay up. Their last season with all injuries and arena-changing adjustments was the outlier. Before that, they were 2 times at ECF, and it's still the same strong core.

- PHI is carbage, and will fall down. Tortosella has got some new motivation on that team, but still, that material isn't enough and too good guys are out for long-term injuries.

- What comes to PIT and WSH, I would be really worried. Especially at Pittsburgh. They are pure shit and injuries aren't the excuse, like it's a bit for Capitals. All the big guys are healthy at Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh did "upgrade" that defence and it seems to be worse defensively. And their goalies are the weakest link, not news for anyone. Money saved on wrong position.

The Penguins might finally have to rebuild?!?

New Jersey's big three of Hughes, Hischier and Bratt have never been able to stay healthy in their careers, I think we're finally seeing what they can do when they're not out. Hamilton missed a lot of time last year too. I guess we'll have to wait and see if they can remain healthy for the rest of the year and playoffs though. Vanecek to me looks like he's better than Blackwood anyways so I don't think him being out has been a real big blow.

What they are doing right now is super impressive, I know their schedule hasn't been really tough but they just swept a home and home against the Flames (who I also think the jury is still out on). Been watching them a lot this year because they play a really fun style of hockey, so much speed out there.

NJD greatness in the standings and advanced stats is...well...great. However I don't think it will be sustainable. They're riding 3 hot forwards and decent goaltending in their 7 game win streak. Look at who they beat:

vs. Detroit - 6-2
vs. Colorado - 1-0
vs. Columbus - 7-1
vs. Vancouver - 5-2
vs. Edmonton - 4-3
vs. Calgary 4-3 (OT)
vs. Calgary 3-2

No doubt they're a good team but in this bunch you have Vancouver (4th worst GA) Columbus (2nd worst GA) and Edmonton (5th worst GA). Colorado has definitely been suffering from a cup hangover and attrition to their roster, and NJD beat Detroit at the start of a 3 game slide.

They're performing well but their opponents underperformed in this stretch.
