Contract values....WTF...if you team has top value and you lose, so what right as long as you are first in something. The right winger to play with AM and MM, regardless of cost is the issue. 900,000 for Robertson or 7.5m for Willie.

Real fans talk about the sport. To imply Matthews and Marner didn't pull their weight given the non-existent performance of a swath of support players is both lazy and not serious enough to build any credibility. Your identity as a fan isn't something you can just declare with any expectation of metamorphosis. It is negotiated with others through your words and actions. Marner and Matthews were among the few players that carried this team. It would have been nice to see a few relieve some of the weight.

Look at the distribution of goals among leafs stars to total team and Lightning stars to total team and attempt to make your case in contrasting salary cap distribution.

Over 50% of Tampas goals came from 4 Players totalling 8.775mm in cap

of the leafs top 3 salary forward players, they accounted for 37.5% of all goals while costing 40.6% of the cap limit
of the lightning top 3 salary forward players, they accounted for 26.1% of all goals while costing 33.33% of the cap limit

So yeah...they carried the team relatively speaking and it gets worse for you as I add players.
