Well, my list of D was ravaged..but I suppose that's bound to happen when I wait for the 4th round to draft one. Again, doing things a bit differently this year since I went goalie round 1. Still, I'm very happy to get this player here. A guy I think you could make the case for going a bit earlier, and one I think is still absolutely a 1D in a 20-team draft even if he isn't in the upper end of that. He's underrated in my book. I think he fits what I'm hoping to build quite well. He's one tough motherf***er, and his two-way abilities are exactly what I was looking for.

One of the premiere offensive defensemen of the O6 era, and a guy who could be just as effective away from the puck..Baltimore selects Bill Gadsby, D

I like Gadsby. He's the first defenseman I ever drafted. He's a guy that can take on different roles as he's requested to. I feel like most of the time you're going to want him focusing on his offensive capabilities, but it's my understanding that in Detroit, he was quite a fine shutdown man. I believe you can shift him as the situation in the game is and he remains relevant.

Here's a run-down of Gadsby's prime, with his placings in available voting, among the top 4 Ds with votes-

1952-53 Post-season All-Star [Norris equivalent?]
1. Kelly
2. Harvey
3. Undrafted A
4. Gadsby

1953-54 Post-season All-Star (see above)
1. Kelly
2. Harvey
3. Gadsby
4. Horton

1954-55- split between two teams... Gadsby didn't place.

1955-56: Inaugural Norris
1. Harvey
2. Gadsby
3. Kelly
4. Undrafted B

1956-57 Norris
1. Harvey
2. Kelly
3. Undrafted C
4. Gadsby

1957-58 Norris
1. Harvey
2. Gadsby
3. Undrafted C
4. Undrafted D

1958-59
1. Undrafted E
2. Gadsby
3. Undrafted F
4. Harvey

How many top-rung placings Gadsby would have collected were it not for the Harvey-Kelly giants walking the earth at that time is (as speculations go) right up there with how many Norrises Brad Park would have gotten, absent Orr.
