I haven't subscribed, but my understanding is it evaluates players based on percentiles. So the best-of-the-best seasons (ie Ovechkin 2008, McDavid 2021 and 2023) would all be 100th percentile. I don't think it's designed to facilitate intra-year comparisons. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this?)Does anyone subscribe? I'd be curious at some of the big years.
This is correct, and would be true for more than just the "best of the best" seasons. Depending on what the games/minutes cutoff is, there'd be around 7 players in the 100th percentile every year - basically anyone who the model views as a deserving first team all star should grade out that way.I haven't subscribed, but my understanding is it evaluates players based on percentiles. Good quiz! I got 91/115 (79%) overall. If I've added this up correctly, I got 74/80 (93%) going back to 1947, and 17/35 (49%) prior.I've been making quizzes on Sporcle. I've got a hard one for you guys.
Leading NHL Defensemen Scorers by Season
I never would have come up with some of those names.
Thanks for pointing that out. It's corrected now. I felt like an idiot when I saw what I'd done.I got 90 out of 115. The biggest name you missed is also one I missed, but it's because it's spelled incorrectly and I didn't try an alternate spelling...though it appears I'm right about it. There's also a very dumb miss from me who would have added 5 to my total...the challenge with these puzzles is you always get a bit of tunnel vision where if a good answer isn't at the top of your mind, you may not get it at all.
Good quiz, but 26, 28 40, 46 and 67 were forwards.I've been making quizzes on Sporcle. I've got a hard one for you guys.

Some specifics (under the spoiler tag):
The biggest name that I missed? Scott Niedermayer
I missed a few big names from the early days - Harry Cameron led the NHL five times, while Georges Boucher and Ebbie Goodfellow led twice.
I got credit for Mark Howe, when I started typing in (Harry) Howell.
I couldn't quite remember Mike McMahon's name (I thought it was "McOwen")
I kept guessing Darnell Nurse for 2021, but I was generally correct in thinking it was a lousy defenseman who played a lot with McDavid.
Hockey Reference has all of them playing defense in those seasons. Some of them are listed on their pages as LW/D or RW/D, but in those particular seasons, they're listed as D. Although I'm not sure about the 1928 part. Those guys were just defensemen.Good quiz, but 26, 28 40, 46 and 67 were forwards.

McCaffrey definitely started as a winger. You can see the change in his statistics, it's pretty drastic. I've had him as a spare in multiple AAA drafts in the past.Hockey Reference has all of them playing defense in those seasons. But yeah, if something's wrong, I'm blaming them. They were my source. Lol
