I was idiot enough to suggest trading Lane Hutson last year in discussions among Montreal fans, while his value "was at its highest".
Never thought his game would translate to the NHL. One of the most unique defensemen in history, stylistically.
That was a strange game. I was there. An anomaly compared to how they’ve been playing. Not used to carrying a 3-0 lead I guess. But we easily could have gone up 4-0, but hit the bar and then Leafs come back down and score. Then a quick powerplay goal then a last minute goal. The. It unraveled. That’s one you just put on the shelf and forget. He got lit up tonight against the Leafs but Hutson is really something. So mobile along the line and everywhere else for that matter. If he can develop some patience without the puck and really solid positioning he might be able to somewhat overcome his lack of size for an NHL defenseman. Could be a real good one. He's sure having a great rookie year.

Ya the Leafs had their own game like that against Carolina a few nights back. Matthews and Marner were both -6. Best to just forget and move on.
Yeah, what's the big deal?
^ for reference, Nylander doing shirtless post-game interviews with a smirk on his face and saying stuff like above, while Marner looks dead serious or as if he's about to burst into tears any given second, is hilarious to me. I'm hard pressed thinking of two teammates coming across more different to each other in front of the media, than those two guys.
The Leafs star players are super unlikable, that's for sure. They always come off as spoiled and entitled kids. Which they are, but you'd think someone would put them back on track.
Montreal found out Saturday how explosive he can be. I guess Hutson thought he could keep up with him. He seems like he could, but not when Nylander has a running start. And then Monty almost slid into the corner on that deke... because he has such a nasty backhander... if you don't bite he can rip it top corner. Doesn't seem to play a lick of defense and just lies in the weeds most of the time, BUT.... he can hurt you if he sees an opening.I have a soft spot for Willy though. I know he's a flawed player, and I probably wouldn't be friends with him IRL, but something about his persona just makes me chuckle. He's also visually dynamite when he's on.
I will gladly interview anyone from your project. I was a newspaper journalist (reporter, features editor, news editor, head editor over 7 years). If anyone is interested in helping on certain topics, they are welcome to reach out.
No. The best information on Dick Irvin you're going to get is on books about the history of the Habs, what little bits Dick Jr talks about him in his books, and when he's mentioned in the PCHA book. I haven't read the OHA history book but it's possible it talks about him a lot as well. There are several books by and about Dick Irvin Jr. (The broadcaster). Is there a book about his father, Dick Irvin (the hockey player/coach)?
Rover Boys
Dear Sir,
Though hockey is sort of an adopted son to us here in New York, we have some of the most ardent fans in the world.
No better proof can be offered than the work of the New York Rovers Blue Line Club. Events such as the “Meet the players Luncheon”, the annual “Invite a Rover for Christmas Dinner”, an excursion to Troy to see the Rovers play, and many interesting meetings are held during thfe season.
On March 8, to climax the season, the Blue-Liners are going to hold their fourth annual tes timonial dinner. This affair is something which we are quite proud of. It is at this dinner that the club awards the Freddie Metcalfe Memorial Watch to the most valuable Rover. The members of the club will also present a hockey revue called “Hockely Yours”. Over the years this revue, which lampoons almost every aspect of hockey, has been a howling success.
The fact that the Blue Line Club of New York is one of the finest fan clubs of its kind in existence can easily be attested by the above samples of its achievements.
There are 24/7 day stores open and without any employees - you just walk in THE OPEN DOORS (no i.d. needed) any time of day and night and pick up any and all you want, then proceed to the ATM to pay, walk out the open door.
Easy peasy.
But this is South Korea, a hard-working socially-sensitive community of 50-million densely populated people who have a lot of pride (and sense of shame).
No way in hell could an open door to a store full of ice cream, cookies, sodas and other treats survive looting in any part of the Americas.
Note 1: they also have tangerines and grapes, beans and rice.
Note 2: These stores have been open for 5 years at least in the city i work in.
Note 3: This kind of biz is unthinkable in most parts of the world. Its sustainability over the last few years in the face of my skepticism has me believing in the sense of safety i've so often felt on the streets of Korea (outside Seoul, Busan).
I'm taking my wife and kids to Japan and Korea next year. Very excited.East Asia is at the top of my bucket list. I'm fairly well traveled but that's one area I've never been to this point in my life. I find the cultures of Japan, Korea, China, etc, absolutely fascinating.
