As he should. Kharlamov>Makarov.

I'd just have to put a big emphasis on league quality to see a clear edge for Khalarmov. He was jaw-droppingly awesome when you watch the Summit Series, but when you get into career value I have a hard time taking his anecdotal support as a clear sign he's better.

Makarov just accomplished more, obviously he had the benefit of a full career, but we'd never rate North American players the way he do Kharlamov-Makarov. I just think he's one of the toughest players to get a real feel for. Maybe the lack of secondary assists makes it even harder, but I just have a hard time with him.

If you care about what a player actually accomplished, then Makarov wins in a landslide.

If you care about how that player looked while accomplishing those thing, then Kharlamov wins.

Yeah but also i loved Makarov twisting in the offensive zone, he really could spin around effectively.

It's my initial plan. Of course nothing is set in stone but:

Ted Lindsay - Ted Kennedy - Charlie Conacher

is my kind of line.

I honestly don't see it having good chemistry. I don't see a pure playmaker to set Conacher up, and I don't think either Kennedy or Conacher is fast enough to keep up with Lindsay in transition. The Production Line got so many of it's points with Lindsay and Howe in transition, and Lindsay doesn't really have a running partner here. Lots of talent here, but I'd split them up at even strength.

IMO, there is a legit argument when it comes to Bossy vs Makarov. But I'm probably higher on Makarov than most people.

There go my dreams of getting Serge Savard to babysit Paul Coffey... heh

It wasn't really a serious idea - Savard always goes to early to think about such things. But man, my Serge Savard - Bobby Orr pairing from my first draft was something else. :yo:

Didn't even realize mark started off with 3 forwards. That's ATD blasphemy, but those 3 guys he's started with are damn good :D

I don't see the fuss with Makarov to be honest, I hope his owner puts together a good bio. I know he had unreal talent, but CSKA was just absolutely stacked in the 80's, and they beat up on all the other teams together. I expect more than Makorov showed in the NHL for him to go so high, even if he was out of his prime by the time he got to San jose.

I realize it was a 20 team draft, but you couldn't duplicate this in a 20 team draft today. HO's Original Champ's top 3 dmen were Sprague Cleghorn - Brad Park - Chris Chelios :amazed: :amazed: :amazed:

sorry , was busy throwing all of sturm's informations about frank boucher in my bio.

pick coming shortly

CSKA was stacked, but Makarov outscored his linemates every single year, usually by large margins. (Except maybe the one year he was injured, but he was still high in the scoring tables that year).

Makarov was 31 years old when he came to the NHL. He's 14th all-time in points for a RW after the age of 31.

NHL points age 31 and over:

Jagr:422 (in 400 games)
Makarov: 384 (in 424 games)
Kurri: 333 (in 427 games)
Bossy: 0 (retired)

Agreed, but even today drafting in a 32 team league Chelios and Park both went in the top 30 and if you traded up for one of them your first forward would be outside the top 100.

The big difference is that in a 20 team league, there is no real run on defencemen because there is enough for everyone.

The Montreal Canadiens are honored to select Boris Mikhailov, RW
