I considered him in my top three best players this draft (Dahlin - Bouchard - Zadina)

My top consisted of Bouchard, Dobson and Wahlstrom, but only because I didn’t think we’d have any hope getting Zadina.

I’m actually surprised people aren’t trashing Holland because he didn’t draft a defenseman despite Zadina being the BPA. Him and Mantha could score a lot of goals pretty soon. And him and Larkin are going to look might fine in a year or two. He completely changes our forward group. It somewhat looks sexy now if Ras pans out and Mantha and Bert continue to grow.

I mean in the end it's tough to be too unhappy with drafting someone like Zadina even though a defenseman would have been nice

I love this pick! I didn't think we had a chance at landing Zadina, and going in my hope was that we would pick Bouchard. Once Arizona passed on Zadina (which shocked me) I was worried Holland would still go with a D-man, I am extremely happy that he didn't!

I would have to imagine we are trading for a D-man now, I cant see AA on this team too much longer.

I don't think drafting Zadina (or Veleno) makes much of a difference in terms of trading AA - I think it makes a difference in terms of trading Mantha. You can stomach losing Mantha in a deal for the right defenseman with Zadina there; Veleno is just icing on the cake. With Rasmussen excelling at wing in juniors and Veleno looking like a consummate center, losing a guy like Mantha doesn't hurt so bad if you've got Zadina-Larkin and Rasmussen-Veleno lined up.

I think him working on skating this summer to improve his first 3 steps will go a long way to getting him NHL ready.

Just make him work out with Larkin lol. Not many more explosive skaters in the league.

I think it does. I think landing Zadina combined with the other issues the Wings are having with AA pretty much assures that Holland will attempt to trade AA. Now if he's unsuccessful but receives a good offer for Mantha, then yes I agree that having Zadina increases the probability of Holland pulling the trigger.

I really like this pick. He's going to be a consistent 30+ goal scorer in a league where it is becoming increasingly difficult to score goals. He locks down your #1 LW spot for the next 10 years. He should be one of the top 15 goal scorers in the league when we are good again in 5-7 years.

No offense, but if they draft Hughes you're singing a different tune for him. I'd worry about an extremely undersized defenseman panning out into a top pairing guy before I worry about Zadina panning out.

I am not and have stated that opinion for two years on Hughes.

I would also be hoping he would pan out though as well that is realistic with all of these guys.You don't know, but I was sold on Quinn Hughes for a while now. I also think he is one of the most entertaining guys I have seen on the back-end so I wanted to watch him 80 to 100 games a year.

My feelings on Hughes vs Zadina were well known going into the draft, would people like me to change that just because we now have Zadina?

Again Zadina is a player that can help, he is a quality pick. I said over and over I liked the top 10. Now I hope he has enough athleticism to be a superstar winger, time will tell. We need a lot of help, they went with their BPA, I just wish it was Tkachuk that was the winger that fell as well or Wahlstrom if we were going winger. But Zadina will help this group.

Hopefully they can ship AA for something and put Zadina on the roster this year.

Back in 2015, they thought they were set at D and needed an F badly, ended up drafting Zacha over Werenski and Provorov. Fast forward to 2017, they have Hischier, Hall, Bratt, Johansson, Wood and Palmieri on the roster and looking for LD help.
