I'm curious about what nickname Zadina gets :naughty: I don't think he had any in czech teams.

these terrible "nicknames"...larks...kronner....howie. i like "Fil the net" as nickname for zadina, i don't remember where i heard it. But it was a cool idea
Hockey has the worst nicknames. It is almost always part of last name with an s or little add on the end.

Clears, Bert, Z, Kronner, Huds, Dats, Lids, Larks, Fil, Malts, Drapes, Murph, etc. etc.

Fil the net is long and tiresome to say.

how tiresome to call him "[Fil]the net"....players don't get called by their nicknames all the time. crazy legs, big balls doug, fragile fred, revis island (althoug NFL nicknames) - just abbreviating the name isn't a f***ing nickname

Once he does something in the NHL he can have a nickname. Until he does anything deserving, he will remain Filip Zadina in my book.

That being said, if we see some ridiculous goals out of him, I feel "Filthy Fil" will be on the shortlist.

'Fil the net' is close to an entire sentence. Would get old very quickly and no one is going to want to use that on the ice

Hey guys, Coyotes fan here. Seems like most of you guys are thrilled with this pick, and I get it. On the other hand, I have to say that I think Holland made a big mistake. He is missing out on Quinn Hughes and you guys have zero...zero quality defensemen on the roster. You don’t win with flashy wingers...you win with goaltending, defensive and center ice depth. Holland took the shiny object and passed on what the team needs more than anything. Hughes is a gem and played at UM and he completely whiffed. It looks sexy now sure, but I think a few years from now this pick will prove to be regrettable. You can trade and sign wingers relatively easy but you can’t go out and trade for guys like Hughes, or Hayton who we took, without giving up and arm and a leg...if at all.
The pick would look regrettable if Hughes is a second pair power play specialist and Zadina is scoring 30 a year. You can twist a draft pick either way.

And now I understand why some fans were fine with taking 3 forwards with the first 4 picks. They rate our defensive prospects a helluva lot higher than I do.

Hicketts - AHL player
Hronek - 3/4 guy
Cholowski - 3/4 guy
Lindstrom - 5/6 guy
Sulak - 5/6 guy
Saarijarvi - AHL player

Now all these are guesses. Any of these players could outperform my predictions (or underperform them, I suppose). But statistically, we should expect at least some of them to never really pan out, because that's just the nature of NHL prospects.

Fingers crossed that at least a couple blue liners work their way into the top 10 for 2019.
I think you're spot on with those projections, but I think the argument against you is that none of the defensemen available at 30-36 will be anything more than 3-4 guys as well. I could be wrong and Calen Addison or Bode Wilde become studs, but we could also be wrong and have Hronek or Cholowski be studs. I'm not convinced Addison or Wilde are that much better than Hronek or Cholowski.

He'll probably just replace Zetterberg as Z. There must always be one Z on the team.

I have a feeling it will be big Z and little Z for this season if Zetterberg is still around. Although Zetterberg can be Zee and we can call Zadina Zed instead

The get called by their nicknames all the time on the ice. Larkin open in front of the net calling for the puck "fil da net, fil da net, fil da net". :) lol But then fil the net does what he is told!

I think he should be called Fish.

His name is Filip Zadina, or Fil for short.
Fil makes me think of Chick-Fil-A.
Which makes me think of chicken.
Chicken Shack has really good chicken too, but their broasted potatoes are fantastic.
Potatoes are also called spuds.
Spuddy was a nickname for Gerard Gallant during his playing days. He’s from Nova Scotia, which is known for their potatoes.
Gallant’s jersey number was 17.
17 is the atomic number of the element chlorine.
Chlorine is used as a disinfectant in swimming pools.
Swimming pools are great on a hot summer day.
Summer is the season right after spring.
Spring makes me think of the phrase, "hope springs eternal", originally written by Alexander Pope.
Pope reminds me of The Pope, a key figure in Christianity.
An early symbol of Christianity was the fish.
And how do you catch a ton of fish???
You fill the nets!!!

See? A very simple and straightforward line of thinking for why Zadina's nickname should be Fish.
