Vesa had a good WJC too so it is not just WJC bias. Or that bias goes toward medal winners.

Tolvanen had the "spot" on the Finnish PP though ;)

I would hope the depth of his success since then would mean more if they did this again now.

re: the 2017 re-draft

the first round in 2017 is amazing in the sense that not a single first round pick seemed to fail to meet expectations in his D+1. You could say "this guy should go higher in a re-draft" about pretty much all of them, so that leaves the list fairly constant.

Way different from past years when there even were top10 picks struggling out of the gate in 2016 (Dubois, Juolevi, A. Nylander) and 2014 (S. Reinhart, Draisaitl, Virtanen, plus Bennett injured for almost the whole season).

so I'd say this: given their D+1 success, the 2017 first round seems to be much closer to the 2015 first round (minus McDavid/Eichel) than previously thought, and it's looking a lot better than the 2014/2016 drafts.

It is dated Mar 22. I have no idea when they did their survey.

At the WJC K Ves and Tolvanen had the same point in the same games. Vesa had 1 more goal. In spite of having that PP spot. KV has the advantage of size. That still counts for something, or should.

Tolvanen's very hot start in the KHL created a lot of hype. That re-draft having Tolvanen rise from 30 to 8 and KV falling from 24 to 31 (?) is just garbage.

I think some here are a little optimistic saying that KV should be in the top 10 in a redraft. There are others, including Tolvanen who should also rise. So mabe Vesa would be around 15-17 in an actual redraft.

But why should we care? The redraft that matters would be the one done in about 10 years or so.

Will likely be before that. Our cap crunch is coming, especially after next year. Laine, Connor, Wheeler and Myers would need a new deal, to name a few.

I don’t think Perreault remains with the team to start 2019/20 season.

I really don't see how Wheeler does either. If Laine is willing to sign for 7-8m per year then maybe the Jets can retain Wheeler if he also takes a hometown discount. If Laine is sign for 9-10+m then wheeler or Buff and MP will probably have to go. This also assume the Jets resign Trouba, JoMo, and hopeful Conner on all long term contracts.

Very, very true. For the few guys who might not have had their point totals go up too much (Rasmussen/Välimäki), there are a couple of guys who have exceeded all expectations (notably Pettersson, Mittelstadt, Frost and Tolvanen). While Vesalainen belongs to the latter group... so do most first round draftees.

E: A funny stat line from a certain prospect who was taken last year: 35-43-78 in 67 games, 105 PIM.

Might take a while to guess the player.

Never to much!
You cannot say “I told you so” without saying “ I told you so!”

Funny, I felt the Jets were interested in Stanley with their extra first round pick, but no one cares for me to remind them of that.
Paul Edmunds on at least three separate times mentioned and talked about Stanley as a target/option for pick 2 in round one that year.

Posters, fans may not have liked or like the pick but it should not have ever been surprise he was picked and that the Jets assertively made a move or him.

It wasn't a surprise to me and Edmonds had nothing to do with it. I don't pay any attention to anything he has to say. My life is better for it.

It's not about liking a member of the media or not, it's about paying attention when one should.

That definitely was such a time. Winnipeg doesn't disperse information easily but it does come out at times and from people that actually do know. It wasn't a coincidence Edmunds was that direct multiple times.

I prefer to pay attention to others. Sorry but Edmunds is an idiot and I turn off the radio when he speaks. Actually I started working out later so I never have to listen to the morning show. There are much better ways to acquire information.

It's not whether you or anyone likes someone in the media though, it's about knowing when there is real information being provided.

I don't think he is an idiot, personally I think Munz is much more so, but even idiots can provide valuable information.

Ehler's first young stars tournament, the Jets had just played Edmonton and Ehler's was scary dominant. He froze Nurse multiple times and had him scared, panicked and confused with his speed and talent. Waiting for Morrissey to do a post game interview there were maybe only 6 or 7 of us there just talking about the game. I said in 2 years there won't be 20 players that have his speed with the puck and zone entry ability. Munz guffawed, but I was adamant. Asked him this year if he had changed his mind ;)

Edmunds didn't just get lucky focusing in on Stanley.

So did Wiebe. So did I also... although I wrote on how the Jets should not pick Stanley over guys despite Stanley being a good player.

Sorry but I don't listen to Edmunds. I choose not to in The future. I guess you missed that part. So whatever he provides is irrelevant to me.

I don't know why you keep pushing him TBH. Why are you so fascinated with the guy?

There was ample evidence that the Jets were interested in Stanley from the scouting community. You know people who actually know what they are talking about.

I am not pushing him simply stating he repeatedly made mention of Stanley being in play for the pick. Obviously he was correct.

You can ignore Edmunds of course, totally your decision. If there is a ranking of people not to listen to he would not be the only one.

I don't recall you or Ken whom I know saying it as adamantly as Edmunds did or as often. Point still is as it always was, Edmunds was correct.

That is the salient point.

Listen to what Ken Weibe says he get’s it. Jets keep their cards close to their chests but this fella knows hockey and is one one hell of a winger himself FYI.

I agree with this. But you speak as if everybody listens to Edmunds as if he some sort of bible when he's clearly not.

Buff not going anywhere trouba will go before buff.

What's your timeline for his last game in a Jets uniform?

Not a chance, Troubs stays....

My own thoughts are Trouba got the exact terms he wanted. Their camp was well aware of:

-the date of Enstrom's contract expiring
-Buff's NMC expiring
-Myers being a full year away from his own contract expiring leaving more money on the table for him

Chevy wanted a long term deal like the Scheifele deal that predated Trouba's bridge deal by a few months.

Overhardt on the other hand knew Trouba's best chance for cash from the Jets was to be in negotiations this summer.

I think Trouba will resign long term. Should he really wish a trade, it will be a after he resigns when he has peak trading value so that Jets can recoup maximum value.

The reality is no-one other than Trouba, his agent, Chevy & his staff have a clue.

My own preference is Buff goes before Trouba does & I doubt few fans would disagree. There certainly isn't room for both as well as Myers & Poolman. When whatever trade happens the Jets will be fully compensated in terms of the return Chevy negotiates, so there's really nothing to worry about.

With regards to Vesalainen, regardless of the year he joins the Jets it'll be on an ELC which will only help the Jets caps position not hinder it.
