Yes, just like Tolvanen with NSH. It will only burn an ELC year off if he plays 9 or more games.

I guess it’s an option, but either way, the depth we have in our pipeline, with a prospect like Ves pushing next season, makes this team very good for a very long time.

Nice!

A friend of a friend, scouts for another team, watched him live just recently, said he played off the charts. His words “Another home run pick for the Jets”.

Speaks to how high he's valued if the Jets were prepared to take him at 13, all things considered. That they managed to get him 11 spots later is incredible.

This guy is good but I'm still peeved off that Chevy gave up an earlier pick to Vegas.

Why? Look at the season the Jets have had. They would have lost either Lowry, Copp, Armia, Perreault, or Dano in the expansion draft, to draft a player that would have been 1-3 years away anyways. They got the same type of player where they picked after the trade. Any handwringing I had at the time has long since been assuaged.

If they could guarantee Dano and a second would do it I'd make that deal but definitely not complaining about ves.

Could he hypothetically be used by the Jets, in playoffs this season, if he signs after his season finishes?

He looks very much like an NHL player to me.

Yes he could but if he played 10 games he would burn the first year of his ELC.

Another factor is that if he signs effective July1 then he can play in the AHL and his contract would slide. If the Jets use him this year then this year would slide but not next year.

It could also impact whether or not he needs to be protected in the next expansion draft

He’s great but if not for his unique shot even Laine would not have made NHL off the gate last year.

Unless something dramatic happens, Vesalainen will not play for Jets this season. Stepping into NHL playoffs without any NA experience? No.

If he's good enough he plays in the NHL, if he's not good enough he plays in the AHL. It's really not any more complicated than that.

Aaagh Kristian, stop scoring goals against my team, pretty please :puppy:
Tell me about it! And not just because I it would help Ässät to win, but also would make it more likely for him to get to play in NA play offs too. NHL or AHL, doesn't matter, would only benefit his development.

He might be a better option than Roslo in the playoffs. Huge frame and can cycle really well along the boards - meaning he can slot into the bottom 6 (unlike Rolso) and still contribute offensively.

Connor - Scheif - Wheels
Ehlers - Stastny - Laine
Perreault - Little - Armia
Copp - Lowry - Vesalainen

Roslo can go and lead the Moose while Tanev, Hendricks, Dano and Matthias are the black aces.

But we have already seen Roslo as a jet VESA would be more of a risk. I also think Perrault little and copp will be kept together.

Swapping a guy like Tanev for Vesalainen isn't a huge risk. I love Tanev's hustle but he's barely an NHLer. Vesa could walk in and provide immediate scoring on the 3rd or 4th line. If he stumbles, Jets throw him onto the first line of the Moose for the AHL Calder run.

Seems like a win-win.

Seems like a lose situation if it affects his ecl and when it expires. They need to keep him cheap and I really don't think one 4th liner is going to make the difference between winning and losing. He would need to best out Dano tanev Matthias and Hendricks. Well it's do-able I just dont see it. I will eat crow if it does.

Burning ELC is certainly a concern, but if the Jets are willing to burn a 1st and Foley to add a player of Stastny's calibre then it may be worth burning 1 year of an ELC to add a player like Vesa. The best part is that it takes 9 games to burn 1 year so he could conveiably get an 8 game tryout before the Jets have to commit. If he comes as advertised then why not go all in this year?

I'm trying to figure out how often I can remind the board that I had picked him as a favorite for the Jets to select at #13 before the draft. Probably too much already, right?
