They are not all going to be making top dollar at the same time. Vesalainen likely plays a couple years in Finland and then comes to the NHL. 5 years from now Vesalaine is still on his ELC. Wheeler is 36 y/o by then. Roslovic and Connor haven't come close to earning big ticket contracts yet.

Laine, ehlers, Trouba, morrisey

Ves isn't expected to play in 5 years? Or is elc ends in 5 years?
Can't bother to check wheeler and MP contracts atm, But I'm sure we will need to be resigning them by the time Ves comes up
And i don't think we have the money for that kind of future
Best to start making trades So we can be a serious contender year after year
These young kids will should be replacing guys like wheeler and mp in 3 years and we need depth to replace the young players
And we don't have a prospect pool for that anymore

This pick would've been really nice last year

I'm glad the Vaseline nickname isn't catching on. Heard someone say it 5 or so times in person yesterday and it made me cringe.

My handy and always accurate Google Translate tells me that Vesa means sprout. So Laine's sprout, which we can turn into...

Mini-Laine.

I now await the inevitable correction from our Finnish speaking members.

Thought Vesa meant lite (light) as in Laine-lite!;)

The Jets have great depth in prospects at forward. The D prospect group looks better after this draft. They only need to hit on 2-3 of their D prospects for 2nd and 3rd pairing, among...

Niku
Samberg
Kovacevic
Nogier
Stanley
Green
Gawanke

If they can keep Morrissey and Trouba, that's a solid top pair, either together or split between the top two pairs with complimentary partners. The hardest D slots to fill are the #1-3.

I resent being called a member before I have really done anything.

I googled "vesa" too: "offshoot". Is it a real word? I mean "vesa" is what grows from a tree stump after it´s been hewd down .Offshoot, really?

Yes. Our bush axe is called 'vesuri', lit. "offshoot doer".

Occasionally it's a 'scion' too, if you feel a bit poetic.

Actually I notice it's exactly scion, we just stress the botanical meaning whereas in English the familial one is the prevalent one. I love when words do this double-meaning cross-language.

He's Christian Sconner now.

Getting more off topic
Was trying to make it relevant to Ves' projection

But I know you guys are optimistic and are thinking about depth
But my theory is to have guys who are coming up to push players down
And we don't have anyone after ves who sounds like he won't be ready for another 3 years

And it doesn't sound that great that Stanley is our next best defenseman that were waiting for who's projected to be at best a 3rd pair and not for another few years

Again I like the pick, but I woudlve liked this pick even more if it was last year and we drafted a better defenseman than Stanley with our first pick this year

Stanley isn't, Poolman or Niku are our best defense prospects atm, whichever you prefer.

Niku is not a better prospect then stanley. And poolman is like 24 already. Stanley is the better of the 3.

I think you'd find a hefty amount of people who disagree with that statement.

In the most over rated prospects thread niku got quite a few votes. Poolman is as old a scheifele. He's not a prospect.

Anyone who hasn't played at least 41 games is still a prospect to me. He might be older but he's much more polished than any of our other prospects at this time. Heck I don't even think Stanley is better than Green and Glover, nevermind how people have been saying Cederholm is looking. Draft position shouldn't dictate how good you are, your play should.

No idea, not a lot of people have gone this year and Aavco was the main source (and still is not even being in town lol) of info.

Just waiting for the scrimmage video on Saturday.

I wholeheartedly disagree with your entire statement ;)

i wasn't a big fan of the pick but he's looked pretty impressive so far. his skating is really strong. explosive and good on his edges, can change directions and cut in and out at full speed effortlessly. his hands are also pretty nice, kind of remind me of laine's but obviously not as good. idk if it's just me but i noticed quite a few finns handle the puck similarly... something about the way they touch the puck with their blade is unique. looks like they're gently caressing it with all edges/sides using a lot of wrist movement, looks so smooth. barkov is the same way

his passing seems hard and precise like laine's also. not sure what his mind is like only watching him doing drills but i'll be there for the scrimmage tomorrow so hopefully he impresses. overall he could use some more strength but he's already pretty far ahead of a lot of the guys his age. can imagine him being a total horse once he fills out.

kovacevic is ahead of samberg right now. he's looked better than i thought so far in camp. not to say samberg hasn't impressed because he has, but kovacevic has almost 2 years on him and is more polished.
