Embarrassed the shield tonight. Lucky they still have a shot at the confederations cup. So many awful performances.

Not that it's an excuse, but that's a weak call on Guzan. It was the correct call, but one that you could make literally two dozen times each game if you wanted to. It's just strange that the linesman chose that moment to signal an infraction.

Also ****** on the play was the job done by the wall. That ball cleared it by only a couple inches, and I don't think a single player left their feet to try to clear it away. The shot itself wasn't even anything that special; it was center of the cage without a lot of dip. The wall should have stopped that.

The US played very poorly, but I saw this performance coming from a mile away. Their heads got too big after big friendly wins against Germany and Holland. There hasn't been any composure since those games. The American identity is to outwork the opposition and be opportunistic on the counter. The long ball doesn't work unless you have a 6'6" target striker or two. That goes for any team.

Jurgen thinks he needed a break after his long year.

He didn't play for more than half a year after refusing to play for the Hamburg reserve team and subsequent row with the club. Would he really have helped?

Green could've helped. Did you see how bad the USA was?

Please, Green barely played soccer this past year. For a whole year he made a total of like 6 appearances. Have you watched him in a USA jersey? Totally outmatched physically and his skills are not up to par to make up for that. He would have been broken in half by teams like Honduras and Jamaica.

Who would you have started ( ) him over?

Green will get his chance to don the Jersey full time during the Olympics with kids his age. The US team looks like it could field a strong side.

Needs a break from what? He had a brutal club season and would not have helped us one bit.

""He had that extreme, long year," Klinsmann said from Cologne, where the U.S. will meet world champions Germany on Wednesday in a friendly. "He needs a break now, so we leave him out of the Gold Cup.""

I like the USMNT, but I think Klinsmann is a hack. There is really no reason to leave guys like Altidore and Green off the roster. Then you factor in the WC where they left off Donovan. His tenure in Bayern, he was convincing everyone that there was some sort of master plan in place; no results reflected that and the board sacked him. Unfortunately for the USMNT, it seems they are fully committed to him.

As far as I am concerned, what Klinsi just said there is his way of saving face. For all intents and purposes Green made the WC team over Donovan and most can agree it was undeservedly so. Now, a full year later, he still has not amounted to much. "Needing rest" or not, he did not deserve to be on this GC roster based on his club form and play with the national team to this point.

I agree with your assessment of Klinsmann for the most part, but he did not leave Altidore off this roster. He was on the team through the group stage. Jozy has had an injury filled first half season with Toronto and hasn't been able to find decent form. He is still not in 100% shape and it showed in the group stage.

I would also add Cameron Carter-Vickers to this list. And hopefully Agudelo can put it together.

I didn't say start. There were many players on the team that wouldn't have gotten games with Hamburg either. You'd prefer Zusi or Wondolowski to Green? I probably wouldn't have even selected Green, but I think he could've helped more than some of those players.

I agree with you there. There was way too much dead weight on this team and there are other players I'd rather have on that roster than guys like Zusi and Wondo like you said, but Green isn't one of them. Not yet

Still Green did have a bad year at a bad club and he showed some attitude issues refusing to play for the reserves. Being a Bayern Munich player and scoring at the WC maybe he thought that was beneath him, but that didn't help him. I think a summer without a tournament getting a real break really does benefit him. Anyway, in his current form, I really don't think he would've helped.

And I think Klinsmann didn't have it easy at Bayern. There was hardly any investment into the team when he came, the biggest transfers were Tim Borowski on a free and Massimo Oddo on a loan. After Klinsmann was fired, Bayern first bought Mario Gomez for 30M€ before also adding Robben after a shaky start by van Gaal. I'm not saying that Klinsmann is an all time great coach, but he isn't that bad imo.

Donovan scores against Belgium over Wondo....

Preaching to the choir, my friend.

Thanks for reminding me of that chance, I'm going to have nightmares about it again. Chris Wondolowski should never have worn an American soccer jersey ever again after that game.

Our soccer team is a lie. Our Fifa ranking is a lie. We lack a true midfield. We have virtually zero attacking midfielders. Our best players are Dempsey and a defensive midfielder with more heart than the entire team put together (Bradley). It's embarrassing. Our defense is the worst I've ever seen. Slow. Inept. Panama is dominating us. No self respecting football team should ever have to hear that sentence. Klinsmann has gone as far as he is going to go. He plays people out of position and seems to lack the players to run whatever system he is trying to run because he won't even keep it simple or play to his strengths. Graham Suzi is the worst player I have ever seen. Fabian Johnson is equally as putrid. I'll let the rest of you guys go to town on amateur player Wondolowski. I've been watching this sport since 1990 and ever since the U.S. has lacked the intelligence and ability to play this game. To this day they lack basic fundamentals that should be taught in developmental levels. They lack any kind of Football IQ. And save for a few players the average guy has zero technique which breaks up basic plays sometimes. It's not just frustrating its frightening to see. CONCACAF is a lie and quite frankly if we played with the South American teams we would get better much faster because the constant humiliations would force us to evolve. I am virtually sick of this.
