The PK needs some surgery too.

The source. According to NHL.com the Canes PP during the playoffs finished at 9.6% and the penalty kill at 68.6%. Yikes that’s gruesome.

PK is most concerning. Canes team is full of highly paid defenders and high-motor grinders. Should be one of the best PKs in the league. At least with the PP one can reason the issue is a lack of skill.

The PK was horrifying in October too, killing penalties at a ~66% clip (worst in the league). The same PK went on to operate at ~85% (2nd best in the league) the rest of the way to finish 8th overall.

The struggles down a man in May could be as simple as a streaky PK going ice cold at the worst possible time.

I wonder how much the loss of TVR hurt the Canes. Changed the pairings. Changed the PK. Caused the other 5 D to play more minutes as Fleury wasn't getting much TOI. Forced CDH to play regardless of injury, etc....

I still think Boston was the superior team and the outcome wouldn't have changed with TVR, but the team seemed a lot more chaotic on D than what we've seen. Of course, the Bruins played a big part in that.
