I fractured my big toe in high school playing soccer in the gym...ball went was heading out through the doors (still in play), i got in behind and slipped as I was turning into the kick, and kicked the post between the (open) double-doors

Also snapped a super-small drill bit trying to remove a stripped screw in my RC car and thankfully hit the top of my thumb and ran across, rather than straight down. I can still feel a slight tinge of dull pain if I rub over the spot I hit (5-6 years later).

On the real topic, has anyone heard if Martinook needs surgery or just had a lingering injury that needed to heal? And while we know CDH will probably miss the beginning of the season, what was TVRs timetable (was he also 4-6 months)?
Haven't heard on Martinook yet, de Haan had a similar shoulder surgery to TVR though so he's also expected to be 4-6 months from what I saw

I did quite a bit of local theater years ago. One of my favorite roles was a villain who invades a quiet home and terrorizes the family. The character smoked--we used clove cigarettes because I hate tobacco. To show what a badass the character was I would tape my right hand and cover it with stage makeup. In the second act I put a cigarette out on my hand. One night I was too much "in character" and put it out on my left hand. The worst part was I couldn't scream or rub it because 200 people were watching.

One time I was in a play in middle school for drama class and the lead was a particularly astute and bright autistic kid. He was able to memorize the lines better than anyone so he got the lead, and was excellent.

But then on the day of the performance in front of the school, he said one of his lines in a different way than we had practiced, and it would've made my practiced response to him make no sense whatsoever. So, ad-libbing and thinking I was doing an excellent job riffing off of him, I said "hmm, what do you mean by that, Joey?" (accidentally using his real first name instead of his name in the play). Then a fellow student/actor chuckled at my mistake, and I nervously laughed/smirked as well (out of being truly mortified). But people noticed the laughing too. So basically in front of the entire school (who didn't know the lines) it could have been misconstrued that I was punking the autistic kid instead of ad-libbing to make the dialogue work. I was mortified as I loved the kid. But he saved it and only my own pride was injured.

May 21st press release from the org is here.

Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, announced that Hurricanes forward Jordan Martinook underwent surgery today to repair a core muscle injury. His recovery time is estimated at four to six weeks.
No source for this, but think I heard someone say he was playing through a sports hernia.

Ok, imma need some details on this one.

Are you just ridiculously skinny?

This was when I was about 18 - I wasn't ridiculously skinny but definitely lanky. I guess I went through a quick growth spurt that put a strain on my lung and ultimately resulted in it collapsing. Didn't really have much to do with pool other than I was stretching to make a shot when it happened.

Yep. Young skinny guys just have collapsed lungs sometimes. Weird.

One of the perks of being a fatass is that I’ve never had to worry about this. As everyone around me gets older they’re putting on the pounds while I’ve been here for a while. The built in cup holder while watching tv is a benefit the skinnies just can’t appreciate.

I knocked out a front tooth while shagging fly balls in my back yard when I was a kid. Needless to say, I misplayed that one.

Sadly, I was scraping paint off of a pair of jeans that I was holding in my hand, and then spotted a book that I meant to finish reading. I read for about an hour, stood up from the stool I was sitting on, and put the knife an inch and a half into my hamstring.

Such are the wilds of literature.

Edit: don't remember the title, but the opening passage may have been, "Dear sirs, I never thought I'd be writing to your magazine."
