Honestly, I was hoping to hear he was playing through something. His dramatic drop off in production in late March and through the early part of the playoffs would at least be better explained. Maybe he just hit a wall...

I took it to mean he had an issue but he just didn't want to be making excuses when there were other people playing with worse injuries.

Regardless of how much he may have been injured, 12 points in 15 games in your first playoff run is nothing to be ashamed of.

I don't think other people's supposedly worse injuries have anything to do with it. He just doesn't want to make excuses, period. Or, rather, to particularly dwell on such an excuse, even if there is a legit one.

And I thought it was the Wall... USA Finland wall...

This is probably more accurate.

so whats the deal with ferland? has that come out yet?

Nothing definitive, but obviously got injured and it put a damper on the 2nd half of his season. Cited from Sara Civ's article.
As the questions pile up for next season's Hurricanes, one...

“The second half kind of sucked,” he said. “Had a nagging injury, for the most part, that I tried playing through. I kept coming back, eventually ended up missing some games in the playoffs. You know, it sucked. The ending to it, being hurt, wasn’t fun.”

He genuinely does love Raleigh and playing for the Hurricanes, but he still needs to communicate with his agent (Jason Davidson) about his options in free agency. We’ve all seen the unique edge he brings to the lineup when healthy, but obviously, if he’s still seeking what I was told was a “significant raise” at the trade deadline, he might need to find it elsewhere.

There was some report somewhere that Aho was playing through a torn or otherwise injured oblique. That would explain the faceoffs missed and something of an inability to elevate his shot at certain times.

He should get a significant raise. I would sign him to a 3 or 4 year deal at maybe 3.5 million per.

that's 4-5 times what he's making now.

Anything more and it's a waste

No player capable of scoring 20 goals under the age of 30 is going to sign for 3.5. Especially one that is capable of throwing a hit. 4-5 times what he’s making now is obviously completely irrelevant.

So we are starting the season without de Haan. Hopefully TvR is back by the start of the season. Does anyone know if his injury is more like de Haan's (not a break) or is more of a broken clavicle type of injury? I'd assume the breaks heal faster, but I don't know.

They estimated 4-6 months for TVR as well, so I doubt it's a break. Seems like a similar injury to de Haan's if they both required surgery and have similar recovery periods.

While mine was only a fractured clavicle, a broken clavicle should not require 4-6 months of rehab. Once the bone is healed (even if surgery is required to stabilize) it should be mostly getting shoulder strength and flexibility back.

Missing faceoffs, as he did for guys like Williams even when they were on their off-side, was telling. Even more was how upright he was when he did take draws. Just couldn't get low like he did earlier in the year.
