Player Discussion Artem Zub (D) Part 2 [Extended 4 years @ $4.6M]

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

His injury this year was a broken foot from blocking a shot. One of his injuries last year was
a broken jaw from a puck to face.
Do you think those mean he's injury prone?
I don't.
You missed this years concussion from your list, and the other previous ones.

It’s the numerous concussions that are the concern, with each one taking a longer recovery. It’s not the broken foot that is concerning.

He looked much better against the Wings.

It would be a significant positive change if he gets back to form and we can roll out 2 legit top 4 pairings.

Also nice to see the D activating more, we need more goals from the back end.

Playing like the Zub of old. Can he play healthy enough and long enough? I am sgill not sold on him long term, and find that him being injury prone can lead him to being a trading chip

people who wanna trade this guy be crazy.
I don't actively want to move him, but he does have a concerning injury history. If there's a deal that lets us acquire a top 3 RD from a rebuilding team with Zub going the other way, Staios has to consider it (Rasmus Andersson type guy). I hope he stays in Ottawa long term as a healthy regular shutdown RD.

I love Zub, but he's like Christopher Tanev. Vital when he plays, but you're holding ur breath a bit when he's out there.

If we can flip him for a Rasmus Andersson or a more healthier version, it's a no brainer. Otherwise, foolish to trade him, even with injuries as he only makes 4.5 million.

Guys like Brodin/Zub/Tanev... excellent defensive and play with their hearts, will miss about 15-20 games more often than not.

Ottawa has plenty of RD depth they don't need to make a trade for one. They have JBD, they have Yakemchuk RD coming next yr, they have Matinpalo RD playing well with Kleven LD this yr for a stretch & they have Guennette RD in Belleville, I don't think they need another RD. I expect that Yakemchuk will eventually replace one of Zub or Jensen in the lineup when their contracts are up if they don't re-sign them. Hamonic RD will be gone at the end of the season.

Concussions arent from being injury prone its from taking a hit to make a play....

Right now I think its pretty clear he is dealing with an upper body injury thats effecting his ability to make skill plays. Probably a hand, wrist or shoulder likely from being a good soldier and blocking a shot or taking a hit.

I thought Zub looked good last night. Much better than he's been the last few games. Kleven and Mantinpalo both struggled. One thing we absolutely have to do this off season is improve our blueline depth.

To be fair, you can become more prone to concussion the more you get them, and the way you play (taking those hits) can be what makes you prone to getting those types of injuries.

Sometimes guys are injury prone because they are warriors who put their body on the line, while others aren't because they are perimeter plays f***ing contact.

From my vantage point in the stands, Zub was the only impactful two way player versus Colorado on Thursday. Kept things calm in his own end and in transition, and was able to create offensive pressure, hitting a post in the second.

He was real strong defensively on Saturday, especially in the closing seconds in that box out effort to seal the game.

Great to see him finding his stride here in the springtime.

We need a third pairing RD who can be serviceable when moved into the top 4. With Zub’s injury history and Jensen getting older, it’s likely that player will need to play 25+ games in the top 4 next season.
