Adding non NHLers won't help the team win.
This is one of those little things that can make a difference. Bring in a guy on a pto who is familiar with the new system. Have him help others learn it. The faster guys can learn where to be without thinking about it the more likely they are to be in sync early in the season. This is a plus in the margins

I am sure a Russian fighting for a job will be more than willing to help in that area.

What if Torts has changed his system from the last time he coached AA?

There is no level of guidance Anisimov can provide to make up for how bad he'll be on the ice.

If the team needs another coach that badly, hire him. Don't put him on the ice.

Are you even familiar with Anisimov? The guy is a total clown. Absolutely doesn't strike me as the personality to be help others learn a system...which even as a concept holds very little merit. He's gonna try to earn a contract. That's it.

Oh and if Torts is still using the same system he used in New York with Anisimov *checks hockeyreference.com* 10 years ago, the Flyers are even more f***ed that we can imagine

The bad news is if there's any version of Tortorella that Fletcher would most want, it's the 2012 one

What the hell is wrong with giving Anisimov a PTO? Looks even better with the Couturier injury. See if he can win a spot. He was a good player, and he put up good numbers in Russia last year. Played under Torts. Why not take a look?

The fact that they've ignored numerous better options through the offseason and Anisimov isn't an NHL player? Perhaps that, and what it says about scouting? Or the hilarious way it puts numerous nails in the "Tortorella will fix it all" fairy tales?

The win is a smart use of a pto body. If he gets a spot by playing better than brown great. If lacinski looks ready but they sign ansimov anyway that's a loss.
Imagine the unlikely occurrence this team makes a playoff run. Bringing in a depth forward who knows what that's like is a consideration for the reviled veteran presence. Giving that guy a job now is an unnecessary luxury.

If the team makes a playoff run, Anisimov playing would be a step towards ending that run as quickly as possible. We aren't talking about a veteran player who can still carry his own while mentoring others. He sucks. He's not going to mentor his way around that.

Then bring in a coach. Or bring in an ACTUAL good player.

He is neither. Of course that means nothing. We bring in shit guys all the time...like Stewart.

What an offseason!

Traded 2nd, 3rd, 4th for an offensive Dman
Waived Lindblom
Gave Deslauriers 4 years
Gave Seeler 2 years
Re-signed MacEwen
Signed Grosenick to shore up the goaltending
Pto to Roussel
Pto to Anisimov

Simply splendid 👌

Or as Charles Entertainment Fletcher refers to it, an AGGRESSIVE RETOOOL.

This is without a doubt the most grotesque offseason i can recall for the Flyers. I really wonder if they know that they are a laughing stock

They do. They dont care. Just robbing Scott & Comcast blind for as long as they can get away with it...which may be a while still.

Bought out Lindblom. $666K against the cap next season, a $333K addition this year... and still technically over the cap right now. Sad.

Are the people here really whining about a consistent 20 goal scorer during the bulk of his career coming to camp as a PTO?

What effect could a guy who is highly skilled and played for this coach in the past possibly have on the young core of Flyers coming up through the system?

The level of cluelessness and pessimism in some of the posts here is mind boggling.

If they were paying him $5 m per season there might be a legitimate gripe.

As Tortorella admitted, they don't know what Anisimov is at this stage of his career. But the person that he is and the knowledge he brings is more than worth utilizing a PTO - even if he isn't signed.

Nothing wrong with adding a little depth in your training camp at center when your first two centers are coming off major injuries.

I don't know if Anisimov can still play, but for a long time he was a good two-way center. And with Couturier's injury, it sure doesn't hurt to take a look at him on a try-out.

Oh, some like to whine, and will find the silliest things to whine about.

I mean let's see Frost actually do something before we worry about him being blocked, he's the exact same age as Tippett, has done less in the NHL, yet the same posters who slam Tippett fluff Frost. Both need to step it up, no excuses.

So far, not a single prospect has gone on to do squat elsewhere, NAK got cut (and not for cap reasons, since they found $2M to sign another bottom six forward), Friedman #7, Myers #7, Patrick retired, Vorobyev in the KHL, who else is there? Reading some posts, you'd think we've traded Sharp for a 3rd rd pick or Seidenberg for some used pucks.

Scrub veterans blocking AHL plus players doesn't get me excited one way or another.
Let's see if Anisimov has anything left in the tank before getting worked up.

Lol yes they do. He's f***ing bad. Add him to the pile of bad players Fletcher has brought to this team throughout his tenure. You could almost build a whole team with them
