He said "Noonan probably should have gotten credit."

Coming from Messier, that's close enough.

Like I said, he admitted he doesn’t know. And I 100% believe he doesn’t know. I 100% believe no one knows and no one will ever know. I definitely don’t know.

Which is why I consider it Messier’s goal. It makes for a better story.

Compared to league averages which is objectively worse than what we have from 2008 on.

But it's definitely better than trying to compare Billy Smith's .898 to Hasek's .930.
Has that been shown to be a reliable method? I feel like that's just a really rough approximation and probably doesn't reflect true GSAA

Who do you see the Jets trading to fit Laine and Connor, whom will take up almost 20 million of cap space?
I would think they would first look to move Perrault, Kulikov, Myers, and (unfortunately looks like there is a good chance we will have to trade him) Trouba. That would shed approx $20 million next year. After that Buffs 7.6 M is almost up and they would look to get rid of Little's 5.3 M before they move Connor or Laine IMO.

It doesn't. But it still beats the shit out of raw save percentage.

Looking at the all-time list, there's really no surprises, unless you're surprised by Fuhr not cracking the top 100.

I'm personally not. The guy was giving up almost 4 goals a game on the greatest team ever.

My only thing with Messier is that some of his tactics in the room from the 80's and 90's just aren't viable now. There's too much money in this game now and these guys all know what they're worth. They're just not going to fall in line with a fellow player screaming at them anymore. Maybe a coach, but not a player. So when it's suggested that we should bring something like that back, or that the current leadership isn't good enough because they're not Messier, I think those ideas are outdated.

I would never suggest or never meant to suggest that he isn't all-time great and respected in the game.
Which is why today’s hockey players are soft as shit and the game is like watching girls figure skating

Well, to add on to my thing from earlier. The Oilers are really a different team after they traded Coffey, which happened in 1987 before Gretzky was gone. 87-88 was the first year that Tikkanen and Beukeboom really established themselves as key pieces. Then, one of the big stories of the 1990 Oilers was trading Jimmy Carson, who was part of the deal for Gretzky, for Klima, Graves, and Murphy. 2/3 of those pieces formed the Kid Line along with a rookie named Martin Gelinas. That line is often credited with sparking the Cup run. Also, Bill Ranford had taken over as the starter from Grant Fuhr. It was a lot of the same core with a fundamentally different surrounding cast.
Ask the Oilers (I have by the way. I asked Lowe, Gretzky and Anderson face to face) who the most important player was. They all without hesitation said Messier. Lowe and Gretzky said “the moose”

Ummm I agree that hes great and I have him behind gretzky, orr, Lemieux and Howe, but if hes top 5 ever then he has to be the best ranger ever and not top 3.
His prime wasn’t his career here even though he was still unbelievable. I put Leetch ahead and maybe one other

He didn’t have the best Rangers career ever. Personally, I wouldn’t put him even top-5 when you isolate his Rangers career, but I tend not to account for Captaining a Cup team as part of that. Frank Boucher, Bill Cook, Andy Bathgate, Jean Ratelle, Rod Gilbert, and Brian Leetch are all players I’d put ahead of him.
I respect your post. But game 6 Devils 1994 and the cup. The man delivered. Pro sports is about winning

Go watch 1980s hockey. Hundred times more entertaining

It's slow, , players aren't nearly as good as they are these days, both in skating, playing and just overall physical readiness. Oh, and the camera quality is shit  . Sure, there's a ton of scoring, but it wasn't necessarily better. The nostalgic factor plays a large part in why people love 80s hockey.

It's the same with music. People always say music in the 70s was better, when it wasn't. You just remember the good stuff, while the horrible stuff sort of slips your mind.

I think he would know if he touched it.

Ducks have tied it against the Caps after being 5-1 down. They looked like dogshit in the first half of the game too.

More goals WAAAAY amore fights. Buildings louder. Fans more into it. But other than that.......

More goals =/= better hockey
More fights =/= better hockey
Buildings louder? How do you know? Again, I am coming back to the "nostalgic factor". You remember only the good moments and over time forget the bad ones. The dull games you hardly remember.
