Benching Subban was the stupidest move Therrien could make.

It is not like that Subban turnover led to a odd man rush. It ended up being a 3 on 3. Another Habs player ****ed up on that goal. Yet Subban is the one getting benched. You don't bench your best player and the player that gives you the best chance at scoring a goal.

Its scary. All the great Subban does both on/off ice, and they are just hanging him out. He's an amazing player but I wonder how much he can repress before it becomes a trade request. And every single fan knows him and Price and tight, so what risk does it cause to fracturing his relationship with the Habs.

He won't demand a trade, but i wouldn't be surprised if he goes to Bergevin and demands for Therrien to be fired.

I particularly enjoy seeing Subban get benched. He's an ass hat on the ice as far as I'm concerned: very talented but his attitude is rotten.

Subban is a very good player, he shouldn't be benched. Just because we have our arguments with Habs fans, doesn't take away that Subban is a probably the 2nd best offensive D-man in the league (Far behind EK, obviously).

Benching him when there's a PP and you're trailing in the last minute should get you fired.

Imagine if Cameron did something like that with Karlsson, we'd be calling for his head.

I think Therrien is done one way or another if they miss the playoffs, which they most likely will.

I still think he did wonders with that roster though. People hate on the guy way too much. Benching Subban was risky, but perhaps it was actually warranted.

I don't think I've taken the time to truly appreciate how satisfying this Habs meltdown has been.
This was a team expected to contend for the conference, not just this year but for years to come. Everyone knew if price was out long term they would be bad but I never thought this bad.

Yeah, pretty much a nightmare season for them. They'll at least get a good pick out of it. You'd think if Price were to be ready by the playoffs, it would be worth it for them to make a push and sneak into that last wildcard spot. But without Price, might as well enjoy some good draft picks.

Yeah, agree 100%. Subban fell. **** happens. It only resulted in a low % 3 on 3 coming back and it was Pacioretty who got puck watching and lost his man on the 3 on 3 - which directly led to the goal. Yet, it's Subban who gets benched...

What a colossal mess they have in Montreal.

I don't want to be "that guy" , but if Therrien isn't such a Montreal born francophone, would he still be employed?

Leaving the language identity politics out of it.. I still can't believe he hasn't been fired. His usage of David Desharnais overr Galchenyuk, especially with Pacioretty is another mind boggler.

Seriously. The guy has meltdowns on the ice and takes a lot of stupid penalties. And that's when his cheapshots and slewfoots aren't called....imagine if they were.

It doesn't matter what kind of talent a guy has when he is that much of a distraction and hot-head on the ice. You simply can't win a Cup in the league these days with a temperamental guy like that on the roster.

Except the 2011 Bruins and Milan Lucic.

The MTL meltdown has been pretty sweet. It's great that they got a nice dose of sobering reality. Surprise, surprise they started seeing what the rest of the hockey world has been seeing. Price has masked their shortcomings, especially in the top 6 wingers department.

I can't remember any big Lucic gaffs/turnovers. He's not prone to overhandling the puck in vain efforts to make a highlight reel play so consistently.

He takes selfish penalties but for the most part the aggression is pretty focused.

Subban does such a bad job of picking his spots.

Ah, the Habs.

Ya, this sort of feels like when they got Galchenyuk 3rd overall. They were a good team, bombed hard for one year and got a great pick, then were right back up the standings the year after.

And are back to sucking.

They are distressingly similar to us: a team built around a player.

I think it isn't winning formula unfortunately. They need to not suck without Price just like we need to not suck without Karlsson (who leaves the ice more often than a goalie).

Now this doesn't mean I think we should trade away Karlsson or that I don't think management is aware of what I'm talking about but it's something that clearly is very hard to correct: look at Pittsburgh and Washington. Granted they haven't been anywhere as bad as we have since Crosby and Ovechkin got there but they have had limited success (considering the talent of said players).
