Toronto is building it right after all these years.
Loading up on young talent, picks and getting out of those long term contracts

They could become a power house if done right

Raffi Torres is 34 would not call him young.

No there no where near being a power house most of these young players they have got the last few weeks won't be with them next year its all about the long term future the picks is what there interested in.

- A team that can spend to the cap
- They have 16 picks in the 2016 draft
- They have begun stockpiling future picks
- Marner, Nylander, Kapanen, Brown, A nice base... Maybe add Austen Matthews to that

I think you're looking at a Tampa Bay Lightning level club in 3 years

A team that can and a team that does is two different things many think they will be well below the cap for the next few years as for they will be a Tampa level team in 3 years no they won't it will take them 5-8 years to get to that level if they stay on this path.

The Leafs are doing well rebuilding but don't count your chickens before they hatch. Let's see how patient they actually can be over the next few years. If they go out and sign Stamkos, will they be willing to suffer longer while he's in his prime? Will Babcock accept that? Can their odd power structure be stable longterm? Will Marner or Nylander actually pan out?

This is the easy part. The hard part is yet to come.

The Toronto Marlies are 15 Pts better then the 2nd best team in the AHL.

19 year old Nylander is ripping it up
34GP 42Pts (Spezza type AHL numbers)

All that youth Toronto is collecting will be walking into a powerhouse AHL franchise

One of the worse thing to do is look at the Ahl and assume that means great things for the Leafs there have been many players that have great Ahl careers but ones in the Nhl things are different and there not as good as many expected.

New #Leafs prospect Lindberg on 1st practice: "A lot of skill work, which is new to me, we didn't really do that stuff a lot in Ottawa."

Bingo won a championship in the AHL not that long ago. That sure didn't turn Ottawa into a powerhouse.

If the Marlies were a vet team like Bingo was I'd have a different opinion.

Leafs have young players in big roles on that club, compared to Bingo who had guys like Roman Wick and Ryan Keller in those same roles

Yeah but it did lay the foundation for out future roster. Lots of those guys panned out really well.

The Marlies are awesome and all but keep in mind guys like Arcobello and TJ Brennan have playing there and lighting it up. And while I like Leivo, Panik and Leipsic, I don't foresee them being great top 6 players.

How many games was he in Ottawa thats right 0.

He obviously means his time in Bingo.

Just because you hate Toronto don't let the cloud judgement. Leafs are rebuilding great.

Sens will have to up there game... 3-5 years from now the Division will be deadly Boston, Buffalo, Florida, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Detroit

All teams on the rise

Don't forget, the Leafs have drafted a lot of smurfs lately. To have the majority of those kids pan out in the NHL just isn't likely. And even if they do, they'll be slaughtered in the playoffs.

The Leafs have a long way to go. A few hotshot kiddies doesn't guarantee anything.

Yep prospects all look great at lower levels ,its can they cut the mustard at this level ??Just because Nylander and Marner look awesome in junior doesnt mean they wont take time to reach their potential if they get there at all:nod:

You're also comparing a 1st place club to a last place club. The last place club with a parent team fighting to make the playoffs should be focused on their system. A 1st place club presumably would have more time to do skill drills in practice rather than work on their system.

Kapanen is 19 and has 20Pts in 29GP
Brown is just getting healthy now last years rookie of the year 18GP 14Pts

Those two along with Nylander should become top six

Nylander is 19 and ripping up the AHL, like how Spezza did for Bingo... If we had a player like that in Bingo we'd be so stoked

It gets to the point with me that a franchise is so bad it's a "I'll believe it when I see it" type of thing. The Oilers and Leafs are in that category. The Panthers were as well and they finally actually became good after years of people saying they "were going to be good."

So the Leafs may turn it around, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Sure, and they also have Frattin. The point is the narrative that the team is littered with future NHL stars is completely incorrect especially if you want to compare them to the 2011 Bingo club it's pretty similar in terms of veterans and B/C prospects.

The Leafs have some pretty solid looking blue chip prospects who seem to be performing and improving. They also have 12 picks in this draft (and counting). One of those picks will likely be a top 3, and could very easily by #1 given their current roster.

I know they still have a long way to go and the proof is in the execution, but if I was a Leafs fan I would be very optimistic that they are finally getting it right. Seems like a lot of people on here are a little jealous.
