Why would you even have an open player hallway like that, open to the fans, on the way to the dressing room? The players have to walk through what is essentially the open concourse to get to their dressing room?

Close off that area, jesus.

I'm sure they saw it working a little differently than that

They need to just set up a couple chairs, put the gm and owner in them and place those fans in front.
These players don't deserve that man. maybe the coach.

For fun I was looking at the 2011 draftees (the draft we seemed to follow the most closely in recent memory given our standing in it).

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: 5-8-13, -4 in 19 games.
Gabriel Landeskog: 4-6-10, -8 in 21 games.
Jonathan Huberdeau: 2-5-7, +2 in 15 games.
Ryan Strome: 4-11-15, +9 in 20 games.
Mika Zibanejad: 3-3-6, -1 in 19 games.
Sean Couturier: 4-4-8, -2 in 19 games.

Essentially a quarter of the way through the season. I think the biggest shock to me is Landeskog...I can't tell if Colorado is purposely tanking or not, but with the players they have at the very least their offense should still be quite good.

Took a gander at the Islanders board and a few people are mentioning Strome as having been their best player of late and think he has been playing smarter than Tavares with some comparisons to Giroux (probably homerish).

Still early on in the draft but it will be interesting to see how these forwards end up ultimately. Other really interesting forwards being Saad, Kucherov, Gaudreau and Palat. No idea how Palat was a 7th round pick. :O

we just missed out on strome. i believe that is who we would have taken had we not been screwed by the lottery

A lot of signs pointed to Ottawa being very interested in Strome, but it was not to be. Most people here know how much I was hoping we drafted him. Damned lottery.

Though there's no guarantee that he would have dropped past the Islanders even if Jersey didn't win it.

Honestly, Pat Quinn probably scared me the most from the 1999-2004 era leafs. You just knew his team was not going to lose to us in the playoffs. I also thought he was just an entertaining personality in a league that doesn't have many entertaining guys. Sad he's gone

RIP Quinn

More like the 11-12 sens. The 2013 sens were constanty outplayed where as the 11-12 Sens were a dominant offensive team carried by pre-injury Karlsson and Spezza.

According to advanced stats, they were more outplayed in 2011-12 than 2012-13. In fact, possession and scoring chances were positive in 2012-13 (based on a Micklebot's post the other day, aka credible source)

I've got a buddy who plays goalie atleast 10 games a week. He's in great shape and says he doesn't really get tired.
NHL players play 82 games a year, how come goalies can't without getting tired? I always wondered that, and figured it had a lot to do with just switching it up for the sakes of getting the backup some games

Pressure in the NHL is freaking heavy...

Our highest pick in more than a decade and we lose lottery! lol is it just bad luck?

This. It's more mentally fatiguing to be constantly in "NEVER LOSE MODE" than it is to actually play the game. You must be sharp all the time. I play 4-5 times a week now and it's just roll out of bed/ get off the sofa, hit the rink, play beer league with no real consequences, go home.

Compare that to when I was in University and I was playing 40+ games with real consequences...you're mentally preparing the night before, watching film, then there's all the game day rituals, then the game is ultra-intense, then it's over but then it's practice time, more game film, etc.

I feel bad for the coach too. They (management) gave a rookie coach a crap team... what did they think was going to happen?

Now there's speculation they might fire him... when really everyone needs to go, not just the coach.

...

That really surprises me. Do you have a link to the advanced stats that state this?

Based on my eye test of watching most games from both seasons, I would have said the opposite.

Hated the Leafs (still do) but had tremendous respect for Pat Quinn during those huge playoff games against them. I was hoping one day he'd replace Don Cherry at Coach's Corner; he seemed to have the personality, the knowledge and the pedigree for it. RIP.

Oh.

The NHL will probably wait until tomorrow to assess the situation. I doubt the game will be cancelled though.

If you're watching the news, it's pretty dangerous.

They're also blocking access to the highways. I would imagine if this keeps up, the game will easily be postponed. You can't risk people's safety to attend a hockey game.

If it does keep up, it most definitely will be cancelled.

I found this table posted by Micklebot. I don't bother verify this source, very reliable.

They only have SC stats for this year, and only for the sens (the Opponent numbers only account for games playing against the sens, so they are not that useful)

That said, I'll add their numbers to the table.

Year|ES scoring chances for|ES scoring chances against|%
2014/15*|174|215|44.73%
2013/14|873|974|47.3%
2012/13|423|377|52.9%
2011/12|907|971|48.3%
2010/11|856|896|48.9%
*from senstats.com

See? Perceptions on this board are just that : perceptions.

The numbers are not an exact science but give you an idea. Number of shots is not important. Sens don't close the outside lanes so they receive many shots from bad angles. In 2012-13, they played a very tight system and were very efficient. They have shown a bit of that this season but offense is lacking and isn't building a lot of momentum so have to do some extra work in the zone.

Why do we keep ending up in crisis zones? First the Boston Marathon bombings, then the Parliament Hill shootings, and now this??

Get used to it, the world is about to implode. Human race is helpless.

These people don't know it yet, but they are going to make their lives even worse because of these riots.

They think the police treat them unfairly already, just imagine what is going to happen when the riots finally stop?

I honestly don't know what these people expect to happen from these riots. All that will happen is that they will spend time in jail and it will make the police act more negatively than before towards them.

Most of the psychopaths aren't from Missouri. Just troublemakers knowing they can get away with anything in a large crowd.

Most of the people looking for actual justice settled down when the coroner's report showed there was, in fact, a struggle between Brown and the cop, and his buddy's account (you know, they guy who also robbed the store a few minutes earlier and is trying to save his own skin) was a lie.

Why do we keep ending up in crisis zones? First the Boston Marathon bombings, then the Parliament Hill shootings, and now this??

No kidding. Feels like we're either horribly cursed.....or incredibly lucky, to have so many 'near misses' like this.

Really makes you think.

I'm afraid it's your perception that is a bit off here.
2012/13 was our best season shot-wise.

Year|Corsi For| Corsi Against|Corsi For %
14/15|780 |873 |47.2%
13/14 |3920 |3564 |52.4 %
12/13 |2304 |1994 | 53.6%
11/12 |3845 |3506 |52.3 %
10/11 |3645 |3607 |50.3 %

Compared to 12/13 our Scoring Chance% is down by 8% just like Corsi% which is down by 7.5%. If you can't see correlation here, then I'm sorry.

They are not playing anything close to that tight system of 12/13 with high CF%. In fact, they are further from that tight system than ever.

Sens are having their worst season possession-wise in at least 15 years and if they can't find a way to fix it we are going off a cliff very soon.
