I can't believe just how little the Oilers have learned about prospect development.

Why is Draisaitl in the NHL? He's clearly, clearly not ready for the NHL right now. He's still just 18, and missing out on really important development time in the CHL in favor of playing ~12-13 mins/night on a terrible team with absolutely no system or discipline. For a player like Draisaitl who needs to work on his game in his own zone, being kept up in the bigs on what seems to be the only team in the NHL who is happy to not bother teaching their young guys how to play defensive hockey, it looks like it's just going to be another case of the Oilers taking a high draft pick and doing everything they can to keep him as far from his potential ceiling as possible.

Stupid Oilers are rushing him into the league because they refused to address their ridiculous hole at center. Draisaitl now gets pulled out of an elite developmental year and is instead learning how to lose from a bunch of kids who convinced the Oilers they they deserve to skip their bridge contracts in exchange for not bothering to learn how to play a complete game and being content to be a league doormat.

I mean... I don't even really LIKE Draisaitl as an "elite" prospect in the first place, and I still feel bad that he had the bad misfortune to get drafted by Edmonton.

they don't have anything near a #2C, so probably the plan was to draft a near ready NHL player and force that. they also only sent down Nurse recently despite showing that he was not ready at all. it's not even a short term gain, and it's certainly not a long term gain. all their players get thrown into the wolves right away

the Sens have had some players developed fast (Ceci, Zibanejad, Karlsson were all fairly quick) but we still let them play in the lower leagues after drafting them and make sure we have the veterans to help them along once they make it

we have Zibanejad who is very far into his development and the Sens still sought Legwand to make us prepared, it's strange how different it is

Edmonton is a perfect example of what happens when you drop all responsibility on youth and talent instead of veteran leadership and wisdom. Too much push nowadays to see an 18 yr old in the lineup when it's the 30 yr-olds that do the real work.

Just more of the same from a franchise that Does Not Get It (TM).

Yakupov and Draisaitl are going to be massive wastes if Edmonton doesn't trade them (and soon) or drastically change their philosophy. Such a shame to see guys careers take a hit like that before even playing a game... getting drafted in the 1st round by Edmonton? Players are at such a huge disadvantage right off the bat. Such a shame.

Yak's struggles and subsequent bad play is 100% on the Oilers, IMO. 100%. Just terrible planning & complete negligence on the part of ownership & management.

Yakupov actually had a great game tonight, according to Edmonton fans he's consistently been one of their better players thus far. As far as Draisaitl I thought he played pretty well for someone who clearly isn't ready to play in the NHL.

The odd thing is that the only people treating it as a bad break up are the people who wanted him gone anyways. It's as though they wanted him gone, but on their terms and because they thought he sucked, NOT because he wanted out because he thought THEY sucked as fans.... Too Funny

The same bashers have carried on with their task like an obsolete machine with a singular task. They don't know what else to do with themselves at present, but eventually I' sure we'll see them reprogrammed to focus their ire elsewhere...

This is what happens when people feel personally affronted by what happens on the television...

Well, in all fairness, the talk about Spezza started up when some people insisted on announcing in our GDTs every time Spezza made a good play, got an assist/point, or got a plus in the plus/minus.

And that's in GDTs where the Sens were not playing the Stars. Can't put all the blame on the Spezza bashers on that one, when they were baited into commenting.

There really needs to be a big +++ rating to posts in this board. Best synopsis of the Oiler problems I've seen a in long time. :handclap:

Oilers finally win a game.

Doesn't matter though. They are still a piece of **** team that will come nowhere close to the playoffs.

Ryan Strome is having a pretty great start to the year. Playing on the third line and the 2nd PP I believe. 5 points in 5 games and +3. Leads the team in CF% (61.16), FF% (64.29), 3rd in SF% (61.67), and 5th in GF% (72.73 with 8 for and 3 against).

As I have a sister in Edmonton I follow the Oilers, good to see them get the win last night.

I really wish we had a chance to draft Strome. When he was interviewed at the Combine, he said he'd love to play in Ottawa because the Sens were his favorite team growing up.

It was a long shot he'd fall to us, but there was talk that the Islanders wanted Mika.
