I can't believe someone said us playing LA would more fun than Chicago. LA just suffocates you. If you want us to get scoring chances better pray for a Chicago comeback.
Hopes for Chicago to at least push it to 7 games
Kings look scary.
Chicago's D looked entirely lost in that game.
Didn't get to watch much but it looked like the Kings were just too fast for them...
Our D is not fast, but they're certainly not slow... I think our defense + goaltending would at least give them some real issues.
our defense and goaltending are worlds better than chicago...we just dont have their kind of firepower on our top line.
we have depth that can match la. id welcome that matchup. could we lose? sure.
but i think it would be a close series regardless of who wins the cup.
but, we gotta beat Montreal 1 more time first. & they gotta beat the defending cup champs 1 more time. easier said than done.
And far deeper at forward. In all honestly, those two teams are not really that comparable. The current Rangers are built much better (hence the reason the Devils imploded shortly thereafter) and they also employ a completely different style of play. Kovalchuk was playing so many minutes for them, it was obscene. The Ranger don't rely on any top players like that, outside of maybe McD. But that is much more of a norm for D-Men, then forwards.
I think you might be trying to be so unbiased to the point that it's almost making you not realize how good this group actually is.
This year was meant to be more of a growing year, but they have grown a lot quicker then expected. The first 15-20 games were brutal, but after that they were rather consistent for almost the entire rest of the year.
The only thing that held the Rangers back from competing for a top spot in the East was the fact that they had to learn AV's system and it took them quite a while.
I firmly believe they were a better TEAM then Pittsburgh.
This Rangers group is good, for sure, not sure they are head and shoulders above that 2012 Devils team.
Also, you can bash Kovalchuk, be my guest, but he was playing with 2 herniated discs in his back for 2 months and still managed to lead the team in points. The guy was a warrior that playoff.
The Devils imploded shortly thereafter, not because how they were built, but because they lost three big pieces. Take Nash, MSL and another winger say Hagelin out of the line up in one year and see if you guys implode. Every team would.
The Rangers are built well, LA is built well too. Would be a good series and certainly the Rangers haven't faced a team like LA yet.
Please... Take Nash.
For a moment, just imagine Kovalchuk instead of Nash. Bash him all you want, he is a beast.
Better yet, imagine we went for Carter instead of Nash like a few of us were calling for.
Carter plays against teams 2nd or 3rd pairings. THey are focusing on Kopitar and Gaborik.
He would be a disaster, ala Columbus, if he was relied upon to be the top dog on this team.
here's hoping the hawks smoke the kings by ohhh i dunno.... 7-4.
Doesn't matter at this point. The Rangers have made their own bed once again. They had the opportunity last night to close out, and get some well earned rest. They have no one to blame but themselves after last night's pure garbage effort if LA gets it done when they could not.
For a moment, just imagine Kovalchuk instead of Nash. Bash him all you want, he is a beast.

If we had Kovalchuk on this team I'd have to buy a new TV every week. Every week.
