The pick was moronic and I said so right since minutes after it was made. And not a BPA choice, some kind of "we need this right now on our team but we can wait 6 years to see if it pans out " strategy. Until Big Mac puts in regular minutes really contributing to the NYR team you will be hearing more of it. It was more or less a franchise altering choice and people not willing to see that are naturally entitled to say that they are sick of hearing it.
But in this case -

Nobody's mad at people doubting Gordie...we're mad that people harp on one ****ing pick in one draft.

In Gordie we bust? Sure. I'll wipe my tears on the stud 2-way center Derek Stepan's jersey. Complaining about one draft pick is asinine considering the way the draft works.

inb4 Stepan isn't a stud, because you're wrong.
 
I'm contributing to the off topic here, but if McI became the Lucic of defense (along with putting up like 25-30 points a year or so, even 20), will people still complain about the pick?

A few picks earlier the Blues drafted superstar center Philip McRae.

Of course, the stupid Rangers completely skipped over him in the first round....

People harp on it because it was the one relatively high pick we've had in recent years and a chance to grab the kind of talent our system never seems to produce. Plus people were high on Tarasenko at the time. It's not like he came out of nowhere.
 
We weren't taking tarasenko. Would have been a nice addition, but who know how selecting him would have effected all the subsequent picks, trades and signings along the way. Everything changes everything.

Not only that, it was the first time this board collectively had a meltdown about something, and were right. Tarasenko is an absolute stud.

Fair enough. But we're one of the best teams in the league right now, and much of that comes from drafted players, or trading drafted players for talent.

Harping on Gordie is ridiculous. Guy has been great since he took over the draft.

Lucic has to be the most overrated player in the league. I've seriously seen more players compared to him than any player ever.

He's a cheap shot artist. He gets hit and then cheap shots players because he's a *****. I mean I would like to have him, but I literally read more people talking about Lucic on this board than any player. He's not some sort of superstar.
 
Anyone else annoyed at how NBCSN is trying to sell this "3-1" narrative? It was actually 3-0 at some point but it just sounds nicer to say 3-1 in every game, even though saying they were down 3-1 this game is meaningless, they were also down 3-2.
 
I saw somebody compare Corey Crawford to Fleury earlier. Not sure if it was this thread or another.

But I just saw the Pitt/Cbs highlights, and i have NEVER seen Crawford give up the goals Fleury did. In fact, I can't think of a Stanley Cup contending goalie that would give up such jv quality goals on a consistent basis.
