I don't like the current system either, but the loser point has some merit with shootouts. I'd much rather have a three point system though.

I also find it quite funny that the loser point is so hated, yet tanking gets advocated everywhere. In the end the draft system rewards losing as well, so why does nobody have a gripe with that?

I guess you can tank strategically, with the acknowledgement that something is sacrificed (a few years of being able to compete/possibly fill your building/keep your fans happy). With the loser point nothing is sacrificed. Play it safe to get the guaranteed one point.

The devils would be dead last in our division if there was no loser point

Well, the loser point clearly DOES keep the races close.. so that article is wrong about that.

Theres nothing wrong with the loser point. Its the extra point for a shootout win thats the problem.

I think they should give the team who wins the shoot out a ROW win and not the extra point...which means take the ROW out

Yeah I wasn't supporting the losing point. I was responding to the post that said the draft system is just as bad. I disagree about the draft system. There's sacrifice, struggles and challenges in ranking and committing to a rebuild through the draft and it's not guaranteed to work (Edmonton lolz). The loser point is just given for nothing.

It's not for nothing. You tied the team for at least 60 minutes. You can argue about the OTL point being for nearly nothing, as you really lost a hockey game, but losing in the shootout means the other team wasn't better at playing hockey than you. So it's not the same "losing".

So you want a team to get 0 points for a SO loss, but if they win it they get 2?

Thats worse than what we have now. By far.

I'd just eliminate the SO, expand OT and bring back ties. Loser point stays.

I feel like this situation arises frequently with the Devils.

In 49 games this year, NJ has 11 loser points. Most in the league
In 48 games last year, NJ had 10 loser points. Most in the league

Still, nothing might equal Florida's 3rd place finish the year before with 18 loser points and 4 games below true .500 on the season.

With one point so far tonight Dubinsky is on pace for 60 points, 227 hits, 40 blocked shots and a 56.5% face off percentage. No one on the Rangers is on pace for as many points, hits (by a decent margin) or has as good of a faceoff percentage and the only centers close to as good in the dot don't play a top-six role. People love to say we traded a third liner for Nash but it's really not true. He also plays more time short handed than any forward on the Rangers (tied with Boyle) and would have the fourth most power play time among forwards on the Rangees despite out scoring all of them.

How about you look up stats over 5 seasons... oh and who got picked for team Canada:sarcasm:
