FLA is back in the playoff discussion…they, Isles, Pens, Caps, Sabres, maybe even the Flyers, all fighting for the wild card spots…these next three games against the Devils, Cats and Caps could be critical for the Pens…

Very creative from Alvin and Rutherford, bringing in two Pens assistant coaches.

Look for them to sign Dumoulin and Sheary in the offseason and potentially trade for Kapanen.

lol what?

Also Florida is "back in the playoff discussion"? They have 51 points in 48 games so we can lose all three and still be 2 points ahead of them.

It'll be interesting to see if Tocchet produces a dead cat bounce. JR should've stayed "retired," imo, but as with Edmonton, I don't see that team really turning around without new ownership, and they don't even have McDrai to play half the game each night.

It's going to be funny when the Canucks are even worse than they are now.

Lmao, so they hire Tocchet as their coach and Sarge as one of their assistants.

JR is truly a senile dipshit that has not learned from his mistakes and is seriously trying to just hire the blokes that won in Pittsburgh thinking that’ll fix it.

The dumb :eek::eek::eek: traded away Dickinson, etc and replaced them with no complement 2way players nor did they fix their D. Incompetent ex Pens coaching staff doesn’t fix incompetent Upper Management.

Canucks fans be like - “All your trash are belong to us!”

You know Canucks fans are going to be like "you don't know what you are talking about with Tocchet" just like JR.

Gonchar I can see helping unlock Hughes a bit, but realistically not sure what they expect him to do there.

Sarge really didn’t do much in the end. Even whatever happened to Schultz before he left, Sarge was still there and this is a bloke that sat with Sully and came up with the idea that JJ wasn’t used correctly and that the Pens should sign him.

I love what Sarge did as a player but as a coach, woof. An ex pens coach that could have helped Hughes is Jacques Martin. Gonchar isn’t it.

It was Todd Reirden who was the assistant coach that helped bring broken toys back to life and with Niskanen in his final year it was Reirden and Martin.

Under Gonch and Martin, Schultz did great for a season but then just fell apart and recently has gotten back on track again. I think the Pens D was largely taking massive steps back under Martin and Gonchar as a pair.

Tough call. He does have one of the best regular season records in coaching history, and would definitely be good for morale.
Things just ended badly for him though. I'd be willing to roll the dice.
If Pens fired Sully and Canucks hired Tocchet would JR fire Tocchet before he coaches a game and hire Sully? that would be hilarious. I'd be fine with BB for a few years, if we suck with him then it wasn't JUST Sullivan the whole time but the team being toast all at the same time, but that's highly unlikely.

Wow I never considered that 😂
Tocch could be demoted to assistant to clear the way too.

It wasn't just Sully. We've had bad luck at critical times too. But at least Boudreau would make adjustments when something's wrong and he has a history of his players respecting and playing hard for him. We saw it last year when the Canucks went 32-15-10 after he took over.

He's a career .627 in close to 1100 games. That means he coaches at a 103 point pace per 82 games. People can say what they want about him getting good rosters, but he made them look good too.

Pittsburghish
It's hard to believe that if JR hadn't have had a hissy fit and quit on the team, he'd likely have a Sullivan-esque extension in place as iron clad Czar of the Penguins right now. So in that respect, thank you, you crazy old bastard.
