Boston makes no sense to me. Berg is 38 in July and Krejci is 37 in 3 weeks. Those are their top 2 centers.
Fantastic coach and staff, everyone has bought in and plays a terrific team game, Pasta is having a stupid season, and almost all of their most important pieces cost pennies on the dollar:
- Marchand - $6.1M AAV through his prime years
- Krejci - $1M
- Zacha - $3.5M this year and only cost them Eric Haula to acquire. The dude had zero offensive instincts in Jersey and couldn't find the back of the net with a roadmap and suddenly he's a legit top 6 piece scoring 40+ ES points this year...
- Bergeron - $2.5M for this:
Even with the bargain contracts, I have no idea how they were able to bring Hall back before the playoffs. I maintain that the cap isn't actually a real thing that anyone needs to worry about...
There's also the fact that their defense group is great; guys like Lindholm and Carlo, that have had some injury issues in the past, have been remarkably healthy this year. Orlov was a great pickup near the deadline as well.
Freezing Cold Takes be damned, I'm stubbornly sticking to my guns that they're not as good as their record, and the sum of the parts is much better than the actual individual pieces. But everyone else in the east seems to be stumbling lately so there probably isn't anyone that can take them down.
