Around the NHL: PTO Season Becomes Waiver Season

Fans turned on Chuck Fletcher. They wanted more results at the trade deadline. They thought he could have traded JVR.

Similar in production to when KA only traded Hagg last year and got a 6th rounder. However, Sabres were further along in collecting top prospects so Adams leash was longer.

Adams also didn’t waste a shit ton of draft prospects on broken players like Ellis or incomplete players like Risto and TDA or give NTCs to plugs like Deslaurier. This is way deeper than just JVR.

Fletcher did get Risto to take 300k less on his new contract though

Risto's charts aren't what you might think they are...

Very good point. JVR was only the final straw.

I'd say that's the last of Fletcher as a GM......but we all know someone will hire him again.

Also, well done for Danny. Hope he does moderately well.

Really hope Fletch lands on his feet and gets another chance, preferably in the Eastern Conference. If the stars align, maybe we get a Leafs first round exit, Dubas gets canned and Fletch is named the new GM in Toronto.

32 Thoughts intermission edition, the Flyers apparently are going to try a legit rebuild. I'll believe it when I see it since there are too many generals in the "special advisor" group who are ex-GM's than there are privates scouting out talent.

Brind’Amour may be the most decorated assistant coach for a youth hockey team in the country. And the guy next to him in flip flops and a black Hurricanes jumpsuit, retired Kings and Hurricanes center Justin Williams, might be a close second.

But on days like this, Williams says, “we’re just dads.”

Brind’Amour, 52, has just returned from the NHL All-Star Game in South Florida. One day, he was offering instruction to superstars Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. A couple of days later, he is teaching hockey fundamentals to a team that includes Brooks, Jagger and Williams’ 11-year-old daughter, Jade.

“They don’t have any clue I’m the coach of the Hurricanes,” Brind’Amour says. “It’s funny. I’m just Brooks’ dad.”

And like dads everywhere, oftentimes when he tells the kids something, “I’ll get a little roll of the eyes,” he says. “I don’t get that from my (NHL) guys. I get it from the 11-year-olds, like, ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about.’”

Squirt and Pee Wee were the two best age groups to coach, IMO.

With the allusion to more changes coming, it seems like a lot of Flyers fans believe their "Special Advisors" will be shown the door also. Though you have to wonder why that hasn't happened yet given that removing an advisor wouldn't seem to have any major impact, unless those advisors were the men behind the curtain.
