What a terrible final four. Usually I would watch most of the conference finals and the cup finals, but I doubt I’ll watch more than one or two games.

Go Florida? I guess?

Sad news for Arizona fans. I wonder what Bettman will do now.

The doghouse
Move them to Houston and they will thrive.

But importantly, absolutely gut wrenching for coyotes fans…even the rumors of the bills or Sabres moving always sucked to go through.

I think there are a lot of options that make a ton of sense if Bettman finally realizes that it won't work in that market.

But, I also won't be shocked if they go back to the Suns about being a tenant in their building now that they have a new owner.

Sadly, this was part of the owners plan from day 1.

He purposefully pissed off his previous arena to the point they terminated his lease. They had to threaten to lock the team out of the arena at one point until he paid up.

the ASU stuff pissed off the players and the other owners (some have suggested they shouldn't get revenue sharing).

The Tempe vote only had a campaign AGAINST the vote, very little was spent in support FOR the vote.

It's pretty transparent what the owners plans have been from the start:

The team is worth a lot more away from Phoenix than in Phoenix. With no arena deal locking them in, they essentially will become free agents. My guess is that they will open up bidding to new, likely western conference cities. Salt Lake City, Houston, San Antonio/Austin, etc. It's simply a matter of when now rather than if.

It DOES suck for the fans.

re: Arizona, this could also have a big impact on the future of Matthews. The speculation for years is that he'd go to Arizona (similar to Kane / Buffalo), but if it's this level of unsettled there, he might just re-up in Toronto.

I can't even imagine what it must be like for Yotes fans here on HFboards. Years of being told by a very vocal group how you don't deserve the team, and that poverty franchise should be relocated.

I lived in the East Valley near Tempe for about 5 years. I know a lot of hockey fans there who were really excited at the prospect of the Arena in Tempe since most of them live in that area. Sucks for them how much that team has been mismanaged for pretty much it's entire existence.

Salt Lake City is growing, but obviously not to Houston or Atlanta levels would be a good assumption.

IMO, the NHL moves the Coyotes to SLC and keeps the Houston & Atlanta markets empty for the next round of expansion in order to maximize the purchase price for new teams.

I don't doubt this course of action by the NHL/Bettman, but something is very wrong when the weakest sport by revenue (by far) is also trying to be the league with the most teams. Owners and expansion fees though...

If the NHL really wants this to be about money, they should buy the Coyotes from the owner at the price he paid + 10%, do a dispersal draft, and have another round of expansion.

Everyone complains about the usual teams on top now all 4 are different and everyone complains lol. I predicted VGK v. CAR in finals with CAR winning.

My only rooting interest now is that Carolina loses. The Eichel and Reinhart connections are meaningless. Dallas and Carolina are franchises who ended the Sabres' dreams.
One could say its the other way round.
I wasnt even a fan back then so its meaningless for me because no trace of what happened is left in that org other than peoples imagination.

This is about generating an emotional response to a sporting event you aren’t playing in…

It’s entirely in your imagination no matter where you come down.

The mistake was putting the Arena in Glendale in the first place. They should have worked with the Pima Rez, empty plot of land, they have already put a small soccer stadium there, great highway access, Casino 1/2 mile away.

In the background of all of this Coyote stuff, if they are looking to be sold (likely for a fraction of what an expansion fee is), will they continue to cater to the rest of the league by absorbing terrible LTIR deals for everyone? Seems like one of the NHL's backdoors will be closed and GMs will be squeezed a little more for their foolishness with UFA contracts.

Austin would be better than Houston for the same reason San Jose works better than San Francisco. It's a big metro with no big league competition.

Return of the Ice Bats would be pretty epic.
