I wait for the Eichel stans to point out Jack's post-season vs. Matthews post-season. I will make some popcorn if anyone needs some.

Interested to see what Toronto does moving forward. Might benefit them to sell Matthews and embrace Marner as the guy

Do I want Eichel to succeed? No

Am I still actively plotting his downfall and actively cheering against him? No

I think that’s a sign I’m over and happy with the trade and more focused on the Sabres success again than spiting the enemy
Most of my animosity was over being abandoned by the reward for years of suffering. When it turns out that Tuch was actually better for this team than Eichel was, I stopped caring about Eichel. I let that hate carry me for decades with Hasek and now I just wish I could have enjoyed his career. If Eichel embarrasses himself every season, becomes the focal point for every discussion of terrible contracts and spoiled rich kids who don’t know how to work through adversity, if everything the Eichel hate crowd comes true in exactly the way they want and more… we’re still waiting for a cup. We’re still waiting to take our kids to the parade. We’re still wishing there was another cold round with dad or another story of the French connection from grandad. Eichel failing doesn’t make any dream come true for me.

When you really dig down Eichel’s always been the second best for a city that hates being number 2. He’s not mcdavid, he’s not tuch, and he’s not going to bring you a cup. For me at least that makes him not relevant enough to care about like I did.

Honestly, my only regret is that I would have loved to see what he could do with Granato coaching him. In the same way I’d like to see Josh Allen play for Andy Reid or Brian Dabol as head coach of the Bills. Not because it’s necessarily better but as hockey fans we missed out on seeing 2 pieces come together that could really have been special.

If they rebuild, it's moving out most of the Snore Four, err Core Fore! for draft picks or prospects to facilitate it.
It's starting to look like that will be the case. It already seems the leaf fans want to Run Matthews out of town. Marner is UFA in 2 seasons as well. Tavares is getting old. ROR they can't afford unless they move some players so if they do keep him it'll be because they move on the others. Nylander might want to go south too.

Mind you, The only way Leafs can get great value for Matthews is if they get a trade and sign deal done.

Otherwise you might only see teams only pony up a late first, 2nd, and a b prospect at the deadline. And even less will come back to Toronto if there's a cap dump move to facilitate it.

Because Matthews really hasn't shown he's a playoff performer, what you would count on a UFA rental to be.

Shoulda got one game in
I’m happy Florida won. I don’t like the team, but Leaf fans are pissed (because they’re out) and Habs fans are pissed (because they don’t get a lottery pick like they were claiming they got in the Chiarot trade). My playoff cheering is over because I no longer care. Nothing ties me to spite or draft picks or seeing the reigning champs dethroned

There’s a reason big name players don’t move. You can’t trade Matthews, Eichel, Tkachuck unless you are trading the guy for another the guy or you’re forced to take lesser value. No team is going to gut themselves for 1 guy because then there’s no reason to pursue that guy anymore. So there’s this built in cap for how much a team can trade for a player before it no longer makes sense.

We were playing the what if game tonight and just kept coming back to, unless there’s a Tkachuck for Hubercanwehave easiernamestospellfortheaverageguy, Toronto is better off going into a rebuild than they are piecing off these players. Tavares is an anchor on their cap structure and Nylander + Marner is just allocating funds to the wrong positions. Nylander makes the best sense to move but you hit that age old problem here’s my worst good player I want your top nhl rdy prospect and the other gm goes no way. But Marner is also probably too good a player to get a team to make an acceptable package available.

Hate to say it for Toronto fans but it’s almost not worth trying anything until Tavares is gone in 2 years. Give Matthews a new contract and just kick the can until you can until that contract is gone. Deal Nylander for some great contracts and deal with the talent loss.

Nah, f*** Eichel forever and always.

SUUUPPPEEERRRR excited to see how MLSE overreacts here. I mean, I haven't been this pumped up about anything hockey related since the McDavid lottery.

It’s complete shit they didn’t show him. They created a pavlov’s dog situation on viewers where we expect his reaction to every on ice event….and then they don’t show the most important one? Bad directing.

idk, Marner just completely disappears in the playoffs. Plays way too soft/small of a game for the post-season. He has 10 goals in 50 career playoff games. For comparison, Matthews is only 1 shy of that total over the last 2 seasons (18 games). The fact that Matthews is on the brink of UFA definitely complicates things a bit, though. I don't envy whatever GM is charged with righting that ship.
