Then you look at deals like Thompson and Cozens and smile. Cause you can actually afford to keep more of a core with those deals.I wonder if the Leafs' top-heavy roster failures gives other GMs pause in future signings.
He's still a dickhead. I didn't realize he can actually play a little bit of hockey too.He still is in my book. What changed for you?
It’s the real money ball of the nhl. You don’t need a top line, or core 4, you roll so deep that the opposing coach can’t matchup lines. It’s where tage and cozens contracts give us an edge going forward. I’m 100% pay Dahlin but if he could come in with 1mil less than fair market, this team could be set in spades. Would love to free up skinners money as well.It would be wild if we had a VGK-SEA Western Conference final. The latest expansion team versus the previous one.
At the point, I have little confidence in Dallas winning this series. Esp. if Otter has lost his magic. Peterson needs to have his photo placed on a milk carton because he is missing in action. The Stars D beyond Suter and Heiskanen (sp?) is really questionable. Seguin is done as a difference maker so that's 2 lines that have useless players on them.Dallas-Seattle off to Game 7.

Let's get real about this...... NHL changed the rules on expansion rostering to make new teams more competitive. Fine. But my personal belief is they went too far...... I mean anyone remember Washington, Ottawa and Atlanta's entry years. Hell, the Sabres were pretty bad their 1st couple of years in the league too.It would be wild if we had a VGK-SEA Western Conference final. The latest expansion team versus the previous one.
I admire what Seattle has done with building their roster. Congrats for a great strategy and it's nice to see alternative roster strategies succeed!I don't mind that a team that is basically just a collection of energetic 2nd lines is advancing. In the realm of imitation, it makes me wonder how others might try to do so.
It also makes me wonder if they want to cash in on more expansion money to the owners by yet more expansion by selling new prospective bidders on the Knights and now Kraken early success.

Vegas goes to the finals in their 1st year? Now Seattle to the Conference finals (probably) in their 2nd? So much for trials and tribulation and patience and learning from adversity. I want it now and I want it all!
I get growing the game and am all for it....... to a point. But the real message here is that the owners really, really like those expansion dollars so why not do a couple more while they are at it and strip teams who have worked hard to rebuild and endured tribulation of their emerging talent bases too....?
Just my own personal view of a pendulum that has swung too far in one direction.

Yes on expansion $$. That's exactly the MoO here.
Right. If you are going to give 4 players that type of scratch, two of them should be defensemen.I wonder if the Leafs' top-heavy roster failures gives other GMs pause in future signings.
Me at 1pm - alright…ready for some weekend afternoon hockey!
…oh yeah the East is all done this round. Oh well.
Me at 4pm - alright…ready for some weekend early evening hockey!
…oh…ok…I guess they didn’t want the west coast game at 1 even though it’s Sunday.
Me at 7pm - alright…ready for some primetime hockey!
…oh come on!
Me at 10pm - screw you NHL.
Game's on ESPN, and they don't want to bump afternoon basketball or evening baseball for it. Or put the game on ESPN2 and compete against those things.8pm start in Edmonton on a Sunday makes no sense at all
Everything about this reads like this isn’t a real sports league.Game's on ESPN, and they don't want to bump afternoon basketball or evening baseball for it. Or put the game on ESPN2 and compete against those things.
They should have given the game to Turner. We would have had a better start time.
Right. If you are going to give 4 players that type of scratch, two of them should be defensemen.
That roster is f***ed.Seriously for a moment though, cap % when signed -
Matthews at 14.64%
Tavares at 13.84%
Marner at 13.38%
(Rielly at 9.2%)
Nylander at 8.76%
Three guys over 10% of cap value when signed is the big problem. One of those three is not the difference maker that contract demands. I also suspect the one of the two defenseman will be around 11.5% and the other closer to 8.5% when all is done with them, which would make both way, way better than any of the Leafs salary structure.
