Whats mickey mouse about it? Any of those Leafs step into Sam and the play shuts down. They don’t need to blast him.
The fact that you can offer the same analysis on every single goal that's ever been scored in hockey, with the possible exception of like...random goals from behind the red line, or those exceedingly rare times when the goalie just fires one into his own net.
At some point, somewhere in the sequence of events, "hey somebody shoulda put a body on that guy!"
What would constitute "analysis" (in my mind, at least) would be an explanation, even a brief one, of WHY nobody checked the guy. The answer, generally, is not "because the leafs are soft and bad lol" although I'll allow that it's a possibility...ya know, because it's the leafs.
Also, it takes away from a guy making a great play when you suggest that the whole thing could have been avoided if someone "just hit him." Like...nobody ever thought of that? The coaches forgot to tell the players they can hit guys? TJ Brodie and Jake McCabe on the ice...they just...didn't think of that?
This stuff happens in a split second in real time. There's a reason it was Reinhart who scored
this goal,
in this manner, and not...I dunno, pick a guy...Sam Bennett. Bennett's more of a straight line player. He probably gets that puck, chips it in and chases it. Or hangs onto it and keeps moving forward, gets hit, loses possession. Either way, lots of hitting ensues, nothing noteworthy happens. Also, great play by the guy who quickly passed it back to Reinhart. But, mainly, this was a Sam Reinhart special based on the play in the neutral zone.
