Well if we wait long enough here for everyone to mature, maybe Yzerman and the Wings can catch up to us as well.

Don't forget Buffalo, they get hot early but seem to fade away as the season goes on. I wouldn't be surprised if they surpass us early as next year. Leafs could be looking at a WC spot depending what moves are made in the offseason.

guess that'd leave only Ottawa below the Leafs..................:sarcasm:

Watching these teams in the playoffs and their style of play really reemphasizes how lame the Leafs are

Just shows that if you want to build your top 6 with analytic friendly players that's fine but you don't need a team with 12 forwards that are analytics darlings or all 6 d men.

So let's see. Following an off-season length's layoff, we're teams that played in a meaningful competitive series play better than teams that were, essentially, playing meaningless hockey?

Colour me shocked.

What an ugly goal for Bishop to give up.

I knew we were in for some crazy surprises this postseason. It's not disappointing in that regard.

The Washington Capitals vs NYI game was supposed to be on Sportsnet and then it gets changed to FX.

Took them long enough to let you know that they were going to put it on some random channel that a lot of people do not have.

Piss poor by Sportsnet.
Agreed. After how the Isles took the first game, and the revenge threats by Caps (and their fans), I was really looking forward to this one.

Apparently the Isles put on a real clinic, especially in the third.

I mean the Leafs suck, but a lot of teams have looked really bad so far. Capitals, Stars tonight - getting shutout by Talbot lol, Blues look really bad, Flyers and Lightning also don't look great.

Capitals, Blues, Stars, and Lightning have all won a Cup in the past 20~ years. Flyers at least made a Finals recently and right now their rebuild is miles ahead of ours and they look like actual contenders.

He averaged 19:30 minutes of ice time per game despite only playing 8 minutes in the 5th game due to an injury. During the regular season, he was averaging well over 21 minutes.

Hardly someone who looks like he has been demoted to the bottom pairing by his head coach.

He is still not what the Leafs need on defense, but he was great once he got away from Babcock and would have likely changed perception if he was away from him for the entire year rather than 2/3's of it.

There was exactly one way to win the Barrie trade, and that was winning outright this year. We took one of the absolute best 2nd line centres in the league, on a dream of a contract, and far and away our best expendable trade chip, and turned him into a downgrade at his own position.

So if montreal wins a series we become even more of the laughing stock of the league?

Not really. Hockey is a game of luck and goaltending is a big part of that.
Carey Price >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> and a few more >>>'s than Andersen.
Montreal wouldn't even be in the playoffs if not for the pandemic.

The team that is scary good and has likely surpassed us are the Canucks (at least temporarily) because they are playing good and winning with Pettersson and Hughes on ELC but they have so many trash contracts that it will be really tough to be good when those guys get paid.

Ya, ditto for me about Montreal, but I think they are liking the underdog role & could give Philly a good run. Weber, Chiarot & Petry don't get much love but are playing pretty well.

Idk, but we've already seen Carolina and CBJ go past us, & I wonder which teams are next - Vancouver likely & even Montreal is one to watch a little closer.
Forgot to mention Philadelphia & the Islanders. They've been rebuilding roughly in same timeline as us, and have managed to surpass us from the perspective of playoff success (etc.). Islanders doing a pretty good job against the Capitals who are a pretty good team.

Love to watch the Canucks, Flames, and Habs play in the playoffs proper while our gutless team is sitting at home. Kadri, Reimer, and Gardiner to boot as well.

Well if we wait long enough here for everyone to mature, maybe Yzerman and the Wings can catch up to us as well.

No idea why some can't acknowledge the accomplishments of other teams. Its like they believe they are better fans if they keep knocking & criticizing other teams. Good to see these teams have some success & maybe we can learn something. Karma can be a ........

Watching these teams in the playoffs and their style of play really emphasizes that the Leafs play pretty much exactly the same way. It's quite hilarious seeing things happen basically every 10 seconds in every game that is the end of the world here.

These playoffs in particular favour teams that grind hard and play tight defense given the circumstances. It's evident players are rusty and teams that have not had to play intense hockey for a number of months are struggling to get going in this round.

This is not the year you look at the successful teams and say 'this is how our team should be built' .. That's not to say there aren't important takeaways, but success this year should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Which teams play the same way? Don't say the Avs.
